Dark Horse has landed [easyazon_link identifier=”1607068095″ locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Lazarus[/easyazon_link] star Greg Rucka to write an all new story within the world of Thedas.
Rucka and Dark Horse’s Dragon Age: Magekiller will take place parallel to the events in BioWare and Electronic arts [easyazon_link identifier=”B00JUFT3L8″ locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Dragon Age: Inquisition[/easyazon_link].
Dragon Age: Magekiller will take place in the capitol city of Tevinter, Minrathous. We will be introduced to two brand new characters, Tessa Forysthia and Marius. Marius will take the role of magehunter while Tessa will be Marius’ handler. The two combine to form a very profitable mercenary outfit. However, their success has attracted the attention of a powerful employer who employs the two on a dangerous new mission.
Rucka delved further into the character development of Marius and Tessa in an interview with Polygon.
Marius has issues, he is really, really good at what he does, but that’s all that he was ever trained to do. So he is not a Templar gone wrong. It’s not ‘all mages must die.’ This is the skill set he sells. He sells it very, very, well. And Tessa […] facilitates, she assists, and then she sort of maintains Marius. But there’s a lot she doesn’t know about him, just as there’s a lot that he doesn’t know about her. So part of [the first] arc is not only an introduction to them but some self discovery.
Outside of Marius and Tessa, Dragon Age: Magekiller will provide key backstory on the rise of the Venatori, the group of Tevinters who worship the main antagonist of Dragon Age: Inquisition, Corypheus.
Rucka also hopes to honor the dynamics of the game. “We’re talking about a roleplaying game where your decisions as the player radically influence what the world looks like. […] I want for you to read the comic and say ‘This fits with my playthrough.’ And I want that to be the case for everybody who comes to it.”
Greg Rucka will be bringing Dragon Age: Magekiller to life with artist Carmen Carnero. Dragon Age: Magekiller #1 will be available for purchase on December 16, 2015.
I am definitely looking forward to seeing what Greg Rucka will do to one of my favorite video game stories. Who knows maybe BioWare will develop it into some DLC material for [easyazon_link identifier=”B00PWEBPMQ” locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Dragon Age: Inquisition[/easyazon_link]
