In brightest day, in blackest Titan? The Corps may have to change their Oath slightly since that is the direction DC and Legendary Comics are going in their epic crossover Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong written by Brian Buccellato.
Just in case you’ve been living under a rock on Skull Island, or in the case of that monstrous fabled isle, the shell or skeleton of a dead Titan, Kong is trading up for a new and more powerful weapon.
The Eighth Wonder is dropping his ax and the gauntlet Monarch just bestowed him with and picking up a Green Lantern ring. Don’t believe us? Check out the teaser DC and Legendary released on Instagram below.
“Don’t miss out on the amazing Green Lantern Kong cover by [Christian Duce],” the two publishers say to hype up the series finale of their joint venture.
Going back to the Golden Age and the bout between The Human Torch and Namor, comics have foisted some cool and heavy-handed stunts on readers. Some changed the face of the art form and others fell flat due to their perceived daring and bombast being considered too silly for words.
Characters that don’t fit the mold doing unpredictable things like wearing a Lantern ring or lifting Thor’s hammer is a trope that’s been with us forever. Still, one has to wonder how Buccellato pulls this off, for how long, and for what purpose besides getting attention.
Usually, a Lantern has to be a sentient being with a strong will and a robust imagination. Fearlessness and a sense of justice help too, but Kong doesn’t fit the profile at first glance. He’s essentially an animal although he has been treated like a god and a king by the Iwi tribe.
We know he is fearless and “bows to no one” but until now, he appeared to operate under an enhanced form of the law of the jungle. Kong may go beyond that and his mind might work at a level above anything ever imagined.

We’d ask how he says the Oath, but if Mogo has that covered somehow, Kong ought to be fine. Here is the synopsis for Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong‘s final issue: “On June 25, the crossover that no one expected reaches its climax with the release of Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong #7, available at participating comic book shops and e-tailers.”
It continues, “In this series finale, two worlds face annihilation in an all-out war between the DCU and Legendary’s Monsterverse! With the help of Godzilla and Kong, can the Justice League win a battle against a re-formed Mechagodzilla and a new, even more deadly, hybrid Titan – a byproduct of two worlds, the likes of which neither universe has ever seen!”
The issue isn’t out until the summer but it is available for pre-orders.
