20th Century Fox Makes Huge Announcement About Doctor Doom at SDCC!

20th Century Fox dropped a bombshell out of left field when they announced they are developing a solo Doctor Doom movie.

Legion and Fargo creator Noah Hawley dropped the news at the end of the Legion panel at San Diego Comic-Con Thursday night.

“Two words,” he said. “Doctor Doom.”

The Hollywood Reporter notes, Hawley is looking to not only develop the solo Doctor Doom film, but also to direct it.

Not only will 20th Century Fox be working on a solo Doctor Doom film, but there are also rumors that Seth Grahame-Smith is developing a Fantastic Four spinoff featuring the son of Reed Richards and Susan Storm, Franklin Richards.

These two new projects come off the heels of the latest commercial and critical bomb of Josh Trank’s 2015 Fantastic Four. The debacle was so bad that Disney canned Trank for an upcoming Star Wars spinoff film.

Doctor Doom or Victor Von Doom is one of the biggest, baddest villains in the Marvel Universe. While he is traditionally the main antagonist of the Fantastic Four, he’s battled with almost everyone in the Marvel Universe including the Avengers. However, while he is traditionally a villain in recent story lines he has taken over the mantle of Iron Man after Tony Stark was incapacitated fighting Captain Marvel.

Doom is a scientific genius who rules over the fictional country Latveria with total control. He wears a mask and hood to hide his disfigured face. The character was originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby and made his first appearance in The Fantastic Four #5 in July of 1962.

Stan Lee described Doom as a “soul stirring…super sensational new villain.” Kirby modeled Doom after Death. “It was the reason for the armor and the hood. Death is connected with armor and the inhuman-like steel. Death is something without mercy, and human flesh contains that mercy.” Kirby went on to describe Doom, “Doctor Doom is an evil person, but he’s not always been evil. He was [respected]…but through a flaw in his own character, he was a perfectionist.”
