“Wowza, Blue Beetle is back! I’m so excited! To get to do the [show]…” Maridueña said on his Lone Lobos podcast co-hosted by his Cobra Kai co-star Jacob Bertrand.

“I think there is an opportunity on each platform to really make something shine, right? In the movie, you had the opportunity to do the movie stuff. In a TV show, you have the chance to do long-format stuff,” he added, pondering the possibilities.

And Maridueña knows what he wants to see as a fan of a certain genre that’s more popular than Western media. “In an animated show…the f–ing fact this kid likes anime and can make whatever freaking weapon he wants and has this suit that lights up…” he continued.

Maridueña went on, “If they do the suit right in animated, I wonder if it’s going to look exactly like the movie suit did or if it’s going to, depending on what the art style, if it’s going to look a little bit different [or the same] for branding and all that.”

Comic book adaptations have dabbled in the anime format many times over the years, so it’s low-hanging fruit for DC Studios. However, it’s not clear yet what direction the series will take.

One of the top mysteries is if the series will pick up from where the movie left off or if it will be some kind of soft reboot. Following that is whether the rest of the cast in any number will also return to reprise their parts.

According to Deadline, most of the cast has been approached and there has been “positive” feedback toward the prospect, but they don’t name any names. Maridueña, for one, hopes to work with everyone again on the small screen.

He told the Associated Press, “I’m really excited about it. I hope everyone comes back for it.”
