Captain Marvel: New Toy Reveals Skrull Character with Potential Ties to Fantastic Four!

Diamond Select Toys revealed four new Captain Marvel Minimates, one of which reveals a brand new Skrull character in Nuro.

The other three Captain Marvel Minimates show off Captain Marvel and the Kree Starforce members of Att-Lass and Minn-Erva. The Minimates have 14 points of articulation, they stand 2 inches tall, and have fully interchangeable parts, perfect for a Skrull!

Take a look, you can see Nuro in the bottom left corner.

Who is Nuro the Skrull?

Nuro the Skrull joins Ben Mendelsohn’s Captain Talos.

In the comics, Nuro was a member of Cadre K and he lived in the Sagittarian Farms in order to protect the Skrull-Bovine hybrids. While that might sound like a peaceful living, Cadre K was actually a group of mutant Skrulls born with advanced powers and abilities beyond that of normal Skrulls.

In fact, Cadre K actually received tactical training from the Skrull empire as well as advanced mutant training from Charles Xavier!

However, once the Avengers and X-Men actually track down Cadre K, they find out they are actually peaceful ranchers who have sought refuge on Earth because the rest of the Skrull race has tried to hunt them down. In fact, they note that they came to Earth because Charles Xavier lauded the benefits of the United States of America as a place where anyone could exceed despite their differences.

Nuro’s Skrull mutation would give him similar abilities to Mr. Fantastic of Fantastic Four fame. He can elongate his body including his limbs, torso, and neck to great distances. This ability allows him to cover great distances quite easily. His ability to elongate his ability stems from his ability to manipulate his body mass into a highly malleable state at will.

Like other Skrulls, Nuro also has the ability to shapeshift.

Fantastic Four Connection

What might be even more interesting about the revelation that Nuro will appear in Captain Marvel is that in the A+X story line that introduces him and Cadre K, the main villain is Dr. Doom, who has been using his vast resources in Latveria to construct an army of shapeshifting robots.

While this is most likely a stretch, it’s possible the inclusion of Nuro could be a hint at the introduction of the Fantastic Four and Dr. Doom to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There are plenty of Skrulls Marvel could have chosen, but they decided to go with one who has the same powers as Mr. Fantastic and is being hunted by Dr. Doom.

However, it’s more than likely this has nothing to do with the Fantastic Four. But it does lend credence to the theory that the Skrulls are not the primary villains in Captain Marvel and everything Marvel Studios has told us leading up to Captain Marvel has been redirection.

How Nuro Fits into Captain Marvel

Its highly likely that Ronan the Accuser will be the main villain in Captain Marvel. I wouldn’t be surprised if he uses his position of power over Captain Marvel’s Starforce in order to usurp power in the Kree Empire. This plan will obviously fail as we know Ronan had become an exile by the time Guardians of the Galaxy debuted.

Now, the big question is how Ronan’s plan will backfire. My best guess is that Captain Marvel will realize that she has been brainwashed by the Kree and Yon-Rogg while visiting Earth. She will uncover her history as an Air Force pilot with Nick Fury, and eventually work to protect Earth against the Kree and uncover Ronan’s conspiracy. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Skrulls as merely pawns in Ronan’s plan. It’s possible he and Yon-Rogg attempt to use the Skrulls in order to take out Captain Marvel and remove her as a threat to their plane.
