Cosplay of the Day: ChampuMagic as Thanos from Avengers: Endgame

Today’s cosplay of the day is ChampuMagic as Thanos from Avengers: Endgame.

ChampUMagic had some great fun on Governor’s Island in New York City where he faced off against dozens of Avengers and told them, “You could not live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? Back to me.”

He would continue to quote Thanos as he showed off a number of photos of his Thanos cosplay from the meet-up.

Check it out.

He even featured in a video remake of the final battle of Avengers: Endgame that also included the X-Men and Fantastic Four.

And here’s a side by side comparison of ChampuMagic out of cosplay versus as Thanos.

Thanos first appeared in Marvel Comics in The Invincible Iron Man #55 in February 1973. He was created by Jim Starlin. He would go on to become one of the most prominent villains in the entire Marvel Comics canon playing fundamental roles in The Infinity Saga, Annihilation, Infinity, Thanos Wins, Infinity Wars, and more.

The character was influenced by Jack Kirby’s Darkseid at the suggestion of Marvel Comics editor Roy Thomas.  Starlin states:

“Thanos was inspired by Darkseid, but that was not the case when I showed up. In my first Thanos drawings, if he looked like anybody, it was Metron. I had all these different gods and things I wanted to do, which became Thanos and the Titans. Roy took one look at the guy in the Metron-like chair and said: “Beef him up! If you’re going to steal one of the New Gods, at least rip off Darkseid, the really good one!”

Thanos is incredibly strong with superhuman strength, speed, stamina, immortality, and other qualities. He can also absorb cosmic energy and has been shown to have telekinetic and telepathic powers. He is a master tactician and strategist and has been known to travel through time, teleport across space, and journey into alternate universes.

Thanos was portrayed by Damion Poitier in the post-credit scene of The Avengers. Josh Brolin would portray Thanos in subsequent appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A new Thanos comic series recently debuted in April from writer Tini Howard and artist Ariel Olivetti.
