Daisy Ridley Confirms Rey Will Show Off New Force Powers in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker
Actress Daisy Ridley confirmed her character Rey will show off new Force powers in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
In a lengthy feature piece about the film from Entertainment Weekly, Ridley explains, “I have skills that have developed, but ‘confident’ isn’t a word I’d use to describe it.”
Ridley adds, “She’s definitely more in control of everything and can do new fun stuff, but she’s vulnerable and a little insecure about at all.”

Two separate rumors detail that Rey will gain the ability to Force heal. The first from Making Star Wars:
“Rey and crew do get attacked by a sandworm alien, which reveals an inexplicable new super power Rey possess: the power to heal or even rejuvenate life. The heroes battle the creature and almost kill the worm and then she uses her powers to repair, or heal, or even bring it back to life.”
And the second from Reddit leaker Jedi Paxis:
“The only other part where my info differs is that I was told that instead of our heroes almost killing the worm, the worm basically has our heroes backed into a metaphorical corner and the healing is what allows them to survive and escape. The main story beat is the same, but some of the details panning out one way vs the other has slightly different implications on Rey’s character. Yours makes it sound like it was an act done from a place of power and out of pity while mine implies compassion in the face of danger.”
Not only will Rey show off new Force powers, but director J.J. Abrams confirmed she will save the galaxy.
“The scavenger who is desperate and haggling for portions and trying to survive [in Force Awakens] — those special skills and that special experience ends up being something that is essential to saving the galaxy.”
While Rey will eventually save the galaxy and use her scavenging skills learned on Jakku to do it, it will apparently be an emotionally heavy story for the character.
Ridley explains, “It’s a heavy story for Rey.” She adds, “There were days where I was literally like, ‘I can’t do this, I’m so tired, I don’t know if I can like reach that emotion again.’”
And one of those emotionally heavy moments will be Rey’s continuing to journey to discover what happened with her parents.
Ridley details, “The parents thing is not satisfied — for her and for the audience.” She adds, “That’s something she’s still trying to figure out — where does she come from?”
She explains how Rey approaches the issue with her parents especially after she searched her feelings and stated they were, “nobody.” Kylo Ren then detailed they were “filthy junk traders who sold you off for drinking money. They are dead in a pauper’s grave in the Jakku desert.”
“It’s not that she doesn’t believe it,” Ridley says carefully, “but she feels there’s more to the story. And she needs to figure out what’s come before so she can figure out what to do next…”
What do you make of Ridley confirming Rey will be using even more Force abilities and that her previous abilities have developed? Are you looking forward to her new abilities? What about finding closure about her parentage?
