Disney Reveals Key Plot Details for Avengers: Endgame at CinemaCon

Disney and Marvel Studios revealed some key details about Avengers: Endgame at their most recent presentation at CinemaCon.

Jo Blo’s Paul Shirey was at CinemaCon where he broke down exactly what he saw during Disney’s presentation in the video below.

Shirey points to a scene where Captain Marvel is in a room with Captain America, Bruce Banner, War Machine, Black Widow, and Thor. He points out that Black Widow still has a full head of blond hair.

Shirey then goes on to describe that Captain Marvel is about to storm out of the room declaring that she plans to go kill Thanos. He notes that Captain Marvel makes it sound like she’s going to take out the trash.

Captain America makes it clear the Avengers have a stake in taking on Thanos and there’s a lot more to it than just storming off to take on Thanos. War Machine even questions if she knows where Thanos is.

Captain Marvel responds saying she knows people who could find him. However, Rhodes isn’t convinced. He even questions where she’s been the whole time. Captain Marvel indicates that not every planet has a team of Avengers protecting it.

Now, this is when Shirey really gets into some major spoilers. He reveals that Nebula is also in the room indicating she’s been rescued from Titan. Nebula indicates that she knows where Thanos might be and that he planned to retire at a place called The Garden.

Shirey reveals The Garden is an entire planet. The Avengers then pull up a map of space and are able to locate the planet. But Thanos isn’t just retied. He’s apparently still using the Infinity Stones, and not just chilling on this planet.

After discovering where they think Thanos is located, the Avengers then get into some discussions about what their next steps will be and how they could defeat Thanos. Captain Marvel is still arguing about charging in head first, while the others who have fought Thanos want to form a more strategic plan.

Shirey then notes Captain America makes a decisive decision to go after Thanos and they all suit up and board Rocket Raccoon’s ship to journey to The Garden.

What’s most interesting about Shirey’s description of this scene is the fact that Tony Stark is not mentioned at all. And Stark isn’t the only Avenger who is missing, Ant-Man and Hawkeye are also absent.

Based on rumored leaks surrounding the Avengers: Endgame plot, it’s more than likely this initial attack on Thanos is a giant folly and the Avengers will end up getting defeated.

I can imagine another opening scenario much like Avengers: Infinity War, where Thanos exerts his will and power and easily defeats the Avengers. This new defeat might actually break Captain America as he realizes there might not be a way of defeating Thanos.

In fact, writer Christopher Markus hints at Captain America hitting an extremely low point:

“Cap’s been our guy since we started at Marvel. He’s the barometer for the team. You go look for Captain America and if he’s still fighting, you keep fighting. But if he’s sitting on his butt in the dirt, saying, ‘Oh God,’ that really, really means you lost.”

It’s quite possible Captain America and his team of Avengers are defeated. In fact, in the most recent special look trailer for Avengers: Endgame there’s a shot of Captain America lying on the ground looking rather defeated. But I think most of of them are able to survive and return to Earth. It’s possible Thanos believes he has become so powerful, he doesn’t view them as a threat any more. But he might view Captain Marvel as a threat given her powers come from the Space Stone. My guess is Captain Marvel is somehow defeated and loses much of her power as she is not seen in the scenes where the Avengers have the white suits.

After returning to Earth, it’s possible that’s when Ant-Man returns and gives Captain America and Black Widow a renewed hope and a new possibility of defeating Thanos.

What do you make of this description of this new footage? How do you think it will play into Avengers: Endgame?
