Emilia Clarke Sheds Light on Her New Star Wars Character Qi’ra

Game of Thrones veteran Emilia Clarke looks to have a prominent role in the upcoming Solo: A Star Wars Story film. Clarke’s character Qi’ra was featured prominently in both the Super Bowl spot as well as the official trailer.

Entertainment Weekly recently released a stunning shot of Clarke’s Qi’ra chatting it up with Han Solo in a bar or some kind of fancy gathering.

Along with the photo, Clarke revealed a number of interesting details about Qi’ra.

“She has a couple of guises, but essentially she is just fighting to stay alive. If you’ve got a really glamorous lady in a really sordid environment, you kind of know the glamor is hiding a few rough roads.”

That sounds like Qi’ra might be similar to Morena Baccarin’s character, Inara Serra, on Firefly. While Serra’s character acted as a high end escort in the television series, I don’t believe Qi’ra will have the same profession. However, they both put on an elegant exterior, but have a rough interior. It’s possible Qi’ra might be putting on that elegant exterior for the mission Woody Harrelson’s Tobias Beckett mentions in the trailer.

There’s also speculation that Qi’ra maybe connected to the rich industrial sector of the galaxy, Taldot. In a shot from the trailer, Qi’ra wears an extremely similar cloak to Senator Vasp Vaspar from Rogue One. Vaspar represented the Taldot sector in the Imperial Senate before joining the Alliance to Restore the Republic.

Another theory involves Qi’ra’s involvement in the Battle of Balamark. Vaspar’s red lining of his outfit was revealed to indicate his involvement in the Battle of Balamark. It’s possible Qi’ra and Vaspar were both involved in the Battle of Balamark which took place sometime before the Battle of Scarif which was depicted at the end of Rogue One. We might even get to see the Battle of Balamark in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Are you excited to learn more about Qi’ra? What role do you think she will play in the upcoming film?

Solo: A Star Wars Story hits theaters on May 25, 2018.
