Falcon Actor Anthony Mackie Jokes: Kristen Stewart “Should be the Gay Female Falcon Captain America”
Falcon actor Anthony Mackie recently joked that his co-star and Twilight actress Kristen Stewart should be the “gay female Falcon Captain America.”
While promoting their upcoming Amazon Studios film Seberg with Variety, Stewart addressed her recent comments made in Harper’s Bazaar. (Related: Kristen Stewart Claims If She Didn’t Hold Girlfriend’s Hand in Public She Could Have Gotten A Marvel Movie)
Stewart told Harper’s Bazaar, “I have fully been told, ‘If you just like do yourself a favour, and don’t go out holding your girlfriend’s hand in public, you might get a Marvel movie.'”
She would clarify those comments with Variety, “That’s been a conversation that’s always existed. I’ve always radically rejected it.” She would add, “It’s nice to be able to talk about that in a way that people really understand now. Instead of sounding like I’m being crazy, like, ‘Don’t put me in a box! Ambiguity’s a cool thing!’ Now, it’s, like ‘duh.’ Before, I had to say it like it was some far out idea. Now it’s more on the mainstage, which is rad.”
She would then explain why she used Marvel, “It was literally just a big conglomerate-y type thing.” She added, “I’m sure they would love to hire the gay kids to be superheroes.”
Mackie, who was sitting next to Stewart in the interview was then asked which superhero Stewart should play. He responded, “That’s a very good question.” Stewart would interject, “A gay one!”
Mackie kept the conversation playful, “It’s been a really wonderful, eye-opening experience to where I’ve been able to work with many —” He then turned to Stewart and concluded, “gay kids.”
He was then asked if there was any room for a gay superhero on the upcoming The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Disney+ show. Mackie responded, “I think [Stewart] should be the gay female Falcon Captain America.” To that, Stewart flexed out a superhero pose.
