First Reactions to Aquaman Test Screenings Arrive!

Another round of test screenings for Aquaman took place and the Internet is abuzz with favorable reactions. On Twitter, users are calling it an achievement and saying it is “soooo gooood!!!” Some even said it’s easily the best of the batch of DC Extended Universe films of this era.

Reaction on Reddit wasn’t much different; one mysterious user compared Aquaman to [easyazon_link identifier=”B076X7F6BC” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Thor: Ragnarok[/easyazon_link] and [easyazon_link identifier=”B07F3ND8R9″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Ant-Man and The Wasp[/easyazon_link] in regards to humor and character direction.

“I cannot confirm or deny that I’ve seen this movie but if I had I would probably say that it’s certainly going to be their most well received movie yet. It’s tone closely parallels Ant-man & The Wasp and Thor: Ragnarok and this movie will be liked by the biggest audience, although it will probably suffer from some criticism that it deviates heavily from the original tone of the DCEU to more closely resemble The MCU. But again I reiterate, this would only be my opinion if I had somehow already seen the movie in an advanced screening, which I am not saying I have done.”

Feedback from earlier test screenings some months back was comparatively less than stellar, saying Aquaman was only kind of good. Godzilla: King of the Monsters received a similarly mixed reaction in its test screenings this year. It’s important to keep in mind this is what test screenings are for: to gauge audience reaction.

In fact, rarely if ever are test audiences seeing a finished product. There is always post-production to be had (color correction, more editing, whatever). And Aquaman wrapped up its post-production last week, hence it wasn’t really finished, and no one saw the final product, until now.

Box-office projections appear dismal since Aquaman lives in the shadow of its predecessors between Man of Steel and Justice Leaguebut this initial reaction and appeal across demographics portends an outcome better than expectations. It certainly wouldn’t be the first movie to defy all the prognosticators out there and be a surprise success; Marvel could tell you that.

Aquaman hits theaters on December 21, 2018. Are you planning on checking it out?
