James Gunn teased that Harley Quinn might show up in his upcoming The Suicide Squad reboot.
Gunn took to Instagram where he posted a picture of Harley Quinn to his Instagram Story as reported by Cosmic Book News. The picture seen below shows Harley Quinn petting a cat and questioning, “Emily monster? We need to get you a “lil monster” shirt.”
If Harley Quinn does appear in Gunn’s The Suicide Squad it will most likely be with Margot Robbie, who is currently wrapping up filming for Birds of Prey. She’ll have a tight schedule as Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is expected to begin filming later this year with the most recent reports indicating it could begin as early as September.
Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will be a total reboot according to Aquaman and Shazam! producer Peter Safran. Safran spoke to Jo Blo:
“First of all, we don’t call it Suicide Squad 2 ‘cause it’s a total reboot, so it’s The Suicide Squad and I think people should be extremely excited about it. It’s everything you would hope from a James Gunn script and I think that says a lot and that promises a lot and I know that we will deliver a lot.”
While, Gunn teased Harley Quinn there have also been plenty of rumors revolving just which characters will be involved in the Suicide Squad. Maybe the biggest rumor is that Idris Elba will replace Will Smith as Deadshot.
Other rumors have indicated that Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista will join Gunn’s Suicide Squad project as the old Charlton Comics character Peacemaker.
There has also been a rumor that Gunn will include Killer Frost into the Suicide Squad. The character has seen a resurgence in popularity due to The CW’s The Flash, where the character appears in multiple episodes. Killer Frost also played a huge role in the Suicide Squad vs Justice League comic book crossover event.
One character that appears to be a lock for the film is Jai Courtney’s Captain Boomerang. Courtney spoke to Business Insider confirming his role in the movie:
“We’re getting ready to shoot in a few months’ time. There’s not much else I can reveal about it but, yeah, you’ll be seeing Boomerang back for sure.”
