Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige confirmed Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will use former director James Gunn’s script.
Feige’s confirmation comes after actor Chris Pratt confirmed Marvel would use Gunn’s script.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was actually supposed to be in production now, but that was before a number of tweets and blog posts involving pedophilia were uncovered. Disney would fire James Gunn putting the movie into a hiatus.
Feige spoke to Collider while promoting Captain Marvel revealing Marvel will use James Gunn’s script, but he was coy on when the film will actually get made.
“I mean, when it was pushed back, it was pushed back. Meaning the release date, because it’s not coming out—although we’ve never announced a release date actually, but it was gonna happen sooner rather than later, initially of course. Outside of knowing that we’re gonna use [James Gunn’s] draft, [we have] been focusing on other projects.”
What does that mean? Not much.
It confirms an earlier report from The Hollywood Reporter indicating the movie had been pushed back and currently on hold. My guess is we won’t be seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 any time soon. As Feige notes they are focusing on other projects. Those projects are likely the upcoming Black Widow film and the Eternals film, which interestingly enough is expected to be an ensemble film similar to the Guardians of the Galaxy. I wouldn’t be surprised if Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is put on permanent hold with the Eternals team filling the role the Guardians currently hold in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As for James Gunn, he is expected to both write and direct an upcoming Suicide Squad film which is expected to be released in August of 2021.
What do you think? Are you happy that they are keeping the script? Do you think we will ever see Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3? Let me know!
