Michelle Pfeiffer Endorses Elle Fanning for Catwoman: “She Would Be Awesome”

Actress Michelle Pfeiffer endorsed her Maleficent: Mistress of Evil co-star Elle Fanning for taking on the role of Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film.

Pfeiffer appeared on the red carpet for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, where she spoke with Variety on her thoughts about Catwoman.

Pfeiffer was first asked if she might be up to reprise her role as Catwoman. She responded, “I would be surprised, but who knows. Anything can happen.”

When asked who she would want to see play Catwoman alongside Robert Pattinson, Pfeiffer commented, “I don’t know. I’m sure they will get somebody magnificent.”

Then the Variety reporter asked, “Elle hasn’t done that thing yet. Could she do it?” Pfeiffer answered, “She would be awesome.”

It’s not a ringing endorsement as the reporter fed her the answer she was fishing for, but it might bring Elle Fanning to the attention of Warner Bros. and director Matt Reeves if the actress who is a fan-favorite Catwoman believes she would be “awesome.”

Rumor: Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Could Feature a Catwoman of Color or Mixed Race

Fanning might be on the short end of the stick though. Back in September, a rumor indicated Warner Bros. and Matt Reeves were looking for an actress of color or mixed race with Zoe Kravitz’s name being mentioned.

He also previously revealed his film will be inspired by Jekyll and Hyde.

“I think that it’s interesting, because one of the things that I’ve found interesting, just as we’re working on the story, is looking back at Jekyll and Hyde, and the idea of your shadow-self, and the idea of, we are all multiple things. It’s different aspects of who we are, and I think there are times when maybe the surface of Bruce is not really who he is, but that’s his disguise. There are times when Batman’s the disguise, but there are times when his true essence comes out, because by being veiled, a kind of instinctual side comes out that’s very pure.”

What do you make of Pfeiffer’s endorsement of Elle Fanning? Do you think she could make a good Catwoman or do you have someone else in mind?
