New Details Allegedly Explain How Sony’s Spider-Man Spin-Off Films Interact with the MCU and How J. Jonah Jameson Fits In

New details have emerged that allegedly explain how the Spider-Man spin-off films like Venom and Morbius will interact with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

These details come after rumors that J.K. Simmons will reprise his role as J. Jonah Jameson in the upcoming Morbius film. Simmons returned to the role in a stinger scene at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, where he accused Spider-Man of murdering Mysterio.

The rumors about Simmons as Jameson in Morbius indicate he will interview Jared Leto’s Dr. Michael Morbius on The Daily Bugle. Those rumors also indicate that Spider-Man will appear in the background of the film in the form of “Wanted” posters.

While this confirms that Sony’s Spider-Verse now directly connects with the MCU in the form of J. Jonah Jameson, it doesn’t explain how the films will actually interact with each other.

Well, DR Movie News reports the Spider-Verse films will not influence MCU films. In fact, they report that these Spider-Verse films will not “be referenced in Spider-Man films & NOT in any other Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

They explain, “Spider-Man MCU films will affect the Sony films, but Sony films won’t affect the MCU.”

They then clarified that the previously referenced “Wanted” posters are not literal wanted posters. They state, “By saying this, we mean background references to Spider-Man. Everyone is looking for him after the shocking events of ‘Far From Home.'”

However, this information is disputed. Twitter user Vullein reported at the end of December that the Sony Spider-Verse and the MCU are “separate continuities.”

Even more recently he expressed bewilderment following a FandomWire article claiming Morbius is in the MCU.

What do you make of these new details? Do you think the Spider-Verse films and the MCU are now connected or do you think they will still operate separate from each other similar to how we saw Venom?
