Rumor: Hobbs & Shaw Actress Vanessa Kirby Being Eyed for Catwoman

Casting news and rumors swirling around The Batman are capturing their share of buzz presently, and now that Matt Reeves’ reboot of the franchise is finally entering pre-production, more names and faces are tentatively being put to characters supposedly part of the storyline — such as Catwoman.

Geeks Worldwide broke an exclusive, albeit one that is strictly a rumor at this juncture, Vanessa Kirby is a talent Matt Reeves is looking at for Catwoman — possibly as part of a shortlist similar to the one he had for Batman.

The Wimbledon-born Kirby is 31 so she fits a similar “starting-out” age that was desired for the Dark Knight before Robert Pattinson was even cast. She has accolades to go with her work too, including a BAFTA Award for Netflix’s The Crown.

And she is used to big-budget franchises, having played sultry femme fatale The White Widow in [easyazon_link identifier=”B07FSZ9TP7″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Mission: Impossible — Fallout[/easyazon_link] alongside Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill. She had minor roles as well in the Wachowskis [easyazon_link identifier=”B00T9DLEZY” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Jupiter Ascending[/easyazon_link], Everest, and 2013’s About Time (a romantic comedy from Yesterday writer Richard Curtis).

Kirby’s next big outing with blockbuster aspirations is Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw where she plays sister to Jason Statham’s title mercenary Deckard Shaw. Hobbs & Shaw co-stars and is produced by Black Adam himself, Dwayne Johnson, and his team at Seven Bucks Productions.

Catwoman is one of the many villains believed to turn up in The Batman. Others vying for the part, however tenuously, include another Vanessa in Vanessa Hudgens, Aubrey Plaza, Eiza Gonzalez, and Gotham siren Morena Baccarin. Each has either showed up in costume on Instagram or expressed interest.

Vanessa Kirby hasn’t spoken publicly about Selina Kyle or The Batman and if she is having discussions with Matt Reeves, nothing is official. The same can be said for that other rumored animal-themed baddie The Penguin and actor Andy Serkis — who might be up for the role of Oswald.

Robert Pattinson swings into action — with or without Catwoman — as the new younger, fresher Batman in June of 2021.
