A new rumor suggests that Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman movie could feature Robin.
The rumor comes from Forbes writer Mark Hughes, who notes that alongside Robin, The Batman could also feature Commissioner Gordon, Alfred, Penguin, Riddler, and Catwoman alongside a number of “other rogues and mobsters.”
The information about Penguin, Catwoman, Commissioner Gordon, and Alfred is not new. The B.Y.O Show reported last month that they had also heard rumors about Penguin, Catwoman, and Alfred. They noted that Vanessa Hudgens was rumored to take on Catwoman with Josh Gad becoming the Penguin, and Richard E. Grant as Alfred.
Hughes doesn’t provide any details on which Robin might be used. Multiple iterations of the character are currently being used on DC Universe’s Titans TV show. Brenton Thwaites plays Dick Grayson and Curran Walters plays Jason Todd. That could indicate we might not be seeing them in The Batman.
DC Entertainment has been fickle when it comes to their characters being shown on the big screen and on the small screen. Arrow producer Marg Guggenheim spoke to Discussing Film about DC’s restrictions on the use of Deathstroke. He clearly intimated that the character would not be available for use because they were reportedly working at the time on a Deathstroke feature film.
“For a time they were saying ‘you can’t use Deathstroke’, and that changed and we were able to have Slade Wilson back on the show, and now we’re back to ‘you can’t use him’. They’re working on the feature film version, it really is sort of now that you’ve got obviously Slade, spoiler alert, Deathstroke appears at the end of the Justice League movie.”
If this is this still the case at DC Entertainment, we can expect that both Dick Grayson and Jason Todd are more than likely off the table for Reeves’ Batman film. Not to mention there was a Nightwing film in development from director Chris McKay at one point. That would only leave a couple of options left.
It’s possible Reeves’ Batman could include Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown, Damian Wayne, or Carrie Kelley. Given how Hollywood has had a penchant for promoting female characters of late, the odds are more than likely it would be Stephanie Brown or Carrie Kelley. In fact, Ariel Winter, who has voiced Carrie Kelley in the animated adaptation of [easyazon_link identifier=”B00FEBZ4O2″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Batman: The Dark Knight Returns[/easyazon_link], recently sported a brand new look. One that fits Carrie Kelley with her fiery red hair.
What’s also interesting is the fact that Catwoman is rumored. For fans of the comics, they know Carrie Kelley has taken on multiple personas. While she was originally Robin, she would take on the identity of Catgirl in [easyazon_link identifier=”1563899299″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]The Dark Knight Strikes Again[/easyazon_link] and eventually become Batgirl in [easyazon_link identifier=”1401265138″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Dark Knight III: The Master Race[/easyazon_link].
Maybe even more interesting is the fact that DC planned on introducing Carrie Kelley as Robin in subsequent DC Films.
The character also briefly appeared during the Knightmare sequence in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Robert Pattinson has reportedly been confirmed to take on the role of Batman in Reeves’ film. No other casting details have been released.
What do you make of this rumor that Robin might be included in Reeves’ The Batman? If the rumor is true which Robin would you want to see on the big screen? Do you think we might see Carrie Kelley on the big screen?
