Well, just when you start to think being a Battlestar Galactica fan is a quiet existence, think again.
Things just got a whole lot more confusing, according to a rumor from We Got This Covered.
A Battlestar Galactica movie has long been talked about for years. Universal kicked around the idea back in the early 80’s and then it gained momentum again in the 2000’s after the success of the reimagined Ronald D. Moore series.
The premise for the movie would reportedly be the same as the Glen A. Larson original. After a Cylon attack lays waste to their 12 colonies in space and devastates the population, the last colonial Battlestar that survived the tragedy, the Galactica, will lead the survivors on a journey to the fabled 13th colony called Earth.

This would not be an issue, if it weren’t for Sam Esmail’s Battlestar Galactica television series that is in the works for NBC’s Peacock streaming service.
Esmail’s show is based in the reimagined BSG universe that was established in 2004. Since the reimagined universe began, it’s sort of grown into the accepted BSG canon.
The reimagined Battlestar Galactica world is quite extensive. It’s foundations are rooted in the Battlestar Galactica miniseries, the Battlestar Galactica and Caprica series, supplemental TV movies such as Razor, The Plan, and Blood and Chrome, as well as a video game in Battlestar Galactica Deadlock.
As great as this movie would be for fans of the original series and the Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch, and Dirk Benedict era of Galactica, it would cause more harm than good.
Not only is there a movie in development, but We Got This Covered says that their source indicated casting has apparently begun and producers are looking to fill the roles of Adama and Starbuck.
The last time a BSG film was discussed was in 2016, Constantine director Francis Lawrence and Fifty Shades Freed producer Michael De Luca were attached.
Lisa Joy, one of the creators of the hit HBO series Westworld, was going to be tasked with writing the screenplay. There hasn’t been any details on the people running the movie project or if this group is still attached.
What are your thoughts on this Battlestar fans? Do you want a TOS focused movie? What will be the canon ramifications?
