Scarlett Johansson Looks to Cash in for Black Widow Solo Film
We just recently found out that Black Widow will be getting her own solo movie. For years her character has won poll after poll when asked which Marvel character should have it’s own solo movie. Not only will Scarlett Johansson star in the Black Widow solo film, but she’s looking to make a pretty penny.
In a new report from the Daily Mail, Scarlett Johansson will reportedly sign a contract that will see her earning $25 million dollars for the film. If the report is true, Johansson would become the highest paid actress in Hollywood for a single movie. Johansson is also reportedly negotiating to get a a producer’s credit.
The Daily Mail’s source reports:
“Scarlett will get a huge pay day for the Black Widow film, which Disney believes could eclipse Wonder Woman in terms of a female-led superhero film’s revenue. he has been a lucky charm for the studio in all their films, and brings her A-game during each performance. Scarlett is adored by Disney’s top brass and is a real team player. This stand-alone movie is out there for them, but they feel it can make history. The wages are high, but nothing she doesn’t deserve given her track record as this character.”
That’s not where it ends. The report also details other goodies within the contract. If the solo film makes over $900 million, Johannson would earn a $6 million bonus. Which means Johansson could walk away with a total of $31 million dollars to play Black Widow in one film. It’s definitely a high bar, but Marvel Studios is no stranger to massive box offices. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 brought in over $863 million, Spider-Man: Homecoming grossed over $880 million, and Thor: Ragnarok brought in $850 million in 2017. Black Widow has a large following both on film, and in the comic world, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the film to break the $900 million mark.
Since her appearance in Iron Man 2, fans have been asking for a Black Widow solo film. The character has a rich backstory that has only been touched very briefly in a few Avengers film. The filmmakers have plenty to work with. And with Wonder Woman’s surprise success last summer, it’s easy to understand why studios now finally might be willing to take a shot with a female-centered role.
Scarlett Johansson will work with screenwriter Jac Schaeffer on the project. The Daily Mail’s source says the two are “working closely” on the project. The Daily Mail is also reporting Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn could co-star in the upcoming solo film. Which is really interesting given that Jude Law is expected to play the male lead in Captain Marvel and Mendelson is expected to be the villain in Captain Marvel.
