Suicide Squad Sequel Just Found Their New Director And Writer!

The upcoming sequel to Suicide Squad may have just signed a new writer and director!

Variety  reports Gavin O’Connor is expected to take the role of writer and director for the forth coming film. The report says that Warner Bros. hasn’t inked the contracted yet, but the deal with Gavin O’Connor is very likely to happen.

O’Connor is no stranger to action movies. He recently worked with Ben Affleck (Batman) and J.K. Simmons (Jim Gordon) in 2016’s The Accountant. He’s also working on an upcoming The Green Hornet movie. O’Connor also worked with Colin Farrel and Edward Norton in 2008’s Pride and Glory and he worked with Tom Hardy and Nick Nolte in 2011’s Warrior. O’Connor helped write both Pride and Glory and Warrior.

It’s been a long haul to find a director for the movie. There have been many big names have been floated around over the last few months such as Mel Gibson who was reported to be in talks to take the directors seat. Nothing ever materialized from those reports. Jaume Collet-Sera was on board to direct, but he jumped ship to work with Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Disney’s Jungle Cruise movie.

The first Suicide Squad film did very well at the box office. It grossed over $745.6 million dollars world wide in 2016. Even though the film was a financial hit, many film goers weren’t very pleased with the film. Margot Robbie’s take on Harley Quinn was the highlight. Even star power coming from Will Smith didn’t leave him immune to critical response for his take on Deadshot.

Rotten Tomatoes critical aggregator scored the film a 25% with an average rating of 4.7/10 of 318 reviews. However, it fare better with an audience score of 61% with an average rating of 3.5/5 from 141,230 ratings. With a new director and writer, there’s some hope that the next mission taken by the gang of villains turned heroes may be a bit more successful.

Production for  Suicide Squad 2 is set to begin sometime in mid-2018 in order to have the film ready for a 2019 release date.

Margot Robbie will return as Harley Quinn. She will be joined by Jared Leto as the Joker, and Will Smith as Deadshot among others.
