Thor: Ragnarok Director Taika Waititi Wants James Gunn to Direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Thor: Ragnarok director Taiki Waititi threw his support behind James Gunn to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 in a joking Tweet saying Gunn “would bring a fresh energy and style that the first two films were lacking.”

Waititi’s response comes after one Twitter user suggested he take over as director for James Gunn on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn was fired by Disney after numerous Tweets and blog posts involving pedophilia.

Waititi wasn’t the only director to be named as a potential director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Edgar Wright, Phil Lord, and Chris Miller were also named.

Wright and Miller would also back James Gunn to take on the role of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Sean Gunn, James Gunn’s brother and the actor who plays Kraglin in Guardians of the Galaxy, recently told the AP at Stan Lee’s tribute in Los Angeles that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would get made.

Gunn noted, “Guardians 3 is gonna get made. We’re gonna make that movie, and we’ll figure out what happens there, but you know everything ends up having a way of working itself out I think.”

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige told reporter Erick Weber at a Black Panther event in October that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently “on hold.”

While Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is on hold at Marvel, James Gunn has been tapped to write the script for DC’s upcoming The Suicide Squad film. And Michael Rooker, who played Yondu in Guardians of the Galaxy, confirmed he will be directing the film as well.

Warner Bros. recently revealed the new title for Gunn’s Suicide Squad movie as well as an expected release in August 6, 2021.
