Universal Pictures To Release The Hunt Starring Betty Gilpin Despite Statement To The Contrary

Universal Pictures released a new trailer for The Hunt starring Betty Gilpin along with a new release date despite a previous statement indicating they had canceled their plans to release the film.

Universal Pictures previously released a statement back in August 2019 indicating they would not be releasing the film.

“While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film. We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators, like those associated with this satirical social thriller, but we understand that now is not the right time to release this film.”

The film caused a stir after it’s first trailer was released with ESPN dropping TV spots promoting it.

President Donald Trump described the film as an attempt to “inflame and cause chaos.” He also added, “They create their own violence and try to blame others.”

At the time of the release of the first trailer, The Daily Mail reported the film’s original title was Red State vs. Blue State and the individuals depicted in the film were described as “deplorables.” However, it was unclear if they were depicted as heroes.

This second trailer appears to confirm that the individuals being hunted are “normal folks.” One of the individuals being hunted tells Betty Gilpin’s character, “Did you see that article? Every year these liberal elites kidnap a bunch of normal folks like us and hunt us for sport.”

Not only does the trailer appear to confirm this, but the official description does as well noting that Betty Gilpin’s character turns the table on the elites.

“The most talked about movie of the year is the one nobody has seen … yet.

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen… for a very specific purpose … The Hunt.

In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a group of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt ordinary Americans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of The Hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin, GLOW), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (two-time Oscar® winner Hilary Swank) at the center of it all.”
