DC Universe: Batman Arrives in the Titans Season 1 Finale!
Bruce Wayne aka Batman shows up in DC Universe’s Titans Season 1 finale trailer and he’s on a mission to kill the Joker in a story line that looks ripped straight from Sean Gordon Murphy’s [easyazon_link identifier=”1401279597″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Batman: White Knight[/easyazon_link].
The trailer begins with Jason Todd coming to Dick Grayson in order to get him to stop Batman from killing the Joker. Grayson discusses whether or not he should even try and save Batman. While Grayson appears to be opposed to saving Batman, Jason Todd makes a convincing argument that Batman is the only hero Gotham has left and if he goes down so does the city.
Following a few action scenes where we get a glimpse of a character who looks to be dressed up as Batman tearing through people with the iconic batarangs, the trailer changes pace dramatically. We get slow, Latin music as a character who looks like the Joker lays dead on the top of a car. And it doesn’t look like the only victim was the Joker, there are numerous bodies laying the morgue. The main suspect for the murders is Batman.
Dick Grayson appears to team with the Gotham City Police Department in order to hunt down Batman. And it looks like he might have found him as one scene shows Grayson savaging another person with blow after blow.
As the trailer comes to a close, it teases that this will be a Robin vs Batman fight.
However, I’m not so sure this is what’s really going to happen. While Batman is no stranger to killing people throughout his history in the comics as well as on film, the way this trailer depicts is a little more gruesome and almost Punisher-esque. It’s more than likely this is an imposter posing as Batman. As many comic fans know the mantle of Batman has been taken up by others in comic book history including Dick Grayson. However, the Batman that most likely fits the description of the man who isn’t afraid to kill the bad guys is none other than Azrael or Jean-Paul Valley.
In the comics Azrael becomes Batman after Bane breaks Bruce Wayne’s back. He has a radically different notion of dealing with criminals and believes in order to stop crime you have to fight by their rules. He is ruthless and merciless in his war on crime and shows little concern for innocent bystanders. In [easyazon_link identifier=”B00J9YIS20″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Batman #508[/easyazon_link], Azrael even allows the mass murderer known as Abattoir to fall to his death. Not only did he let Abattoir die, but he also let one of his hostages die.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the man dressed as Batman isn’t Bruce Wayne, but is Jean Paul-Valley. And what looks to be the Joker is really just one of his henchmen. What do you think?
