Lucasfilm and Star Wars announced Star Wars: Skeleton Crew a new Disney+ series on the first day of Star Wars Celebration.

In a press release recapping the first day from Star Wars Celebration, Walt Disney Studios revealed that creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford are teaming up with Favreau and Filoni to create Star Wars: Skeleton Crew starring Jude Law.

The series takes place in the New Republic and follows “a group of kids lost in the Star Wars galaxy trying to find their home.”

The official Star Wars Twitter account announced, “Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, an Original series starring Jude Law, from executive producers Jon Watts, Christopher Ford, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, is streaming in 2023 only on Disney+.”

Ford and Watts discussed the show after they were brought on stage by Favreau and Filoni.

Watts said, “We really like the opportunity of using kids to give you a slightly different perspective on the Star Wars universe. To see the galaxy through a different pair of eyes.”

The series was previously detailed in a lengthy piece by Vanity Fair where it was referred to by its code name Grammar Rodeo. Vanity Fair explained the code name was in “reference to an episode of The Simpsons in which Bart and his schoolmates steal a car and run away for a week, using a phony educational event as an alibi.”

The outlet also revealed the show would take place after Return of the Jedi and that Lucasfilm was looking to cast four children for the series between the ages of 11 to 12. They also described is as a “galactic version of classic Amblin coming-of-age adventure films of the ’80s.”

Ned is described as “Wyatt’s bashful best friend.” He’s also “kind with a massive heart, but also tends to be a rules follower.” Lucasfilm is looking for a boy of any ethnicity to play him.

As for Faye, Illuminerdi details she’s “rebellious and extroverted, but at 12 years old they already have a chip on their shoulder.” The outlet also claimed Lucasfilm was “looking to cast a young actress or non-binary actor of any ethnicity to play” the character.

Finally, the Illuminerdi detailed Kylie who is described as “serious, intelligent, and keeps her emotions guarded, behind a wall.” They are looking for a 12 year old girl of any ethnicity to play her.
