Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics President Tom Ascheim recently divulged a number of new details about the upcoming DC animated series My Adventures With Superman, including how the series will be a “romantic comedy” inspired by Christopher Reeve’s time as the Man of Steel and has thus far “tested better with girls.”
My Adventures With Superman was touched upon by Ascheim during his recent June 8th keynote speech for the TV Kids Summer Festival, wherein the WarnerMedia executive discussed further details about the series as part of his promotion of the studio’s upcoming slate of productions.
Noting that “There’s [sic] many versions of Superman over the years, and there will be many more over the years,” Ascheim then disclosed how “the series is sort of taking as its inspiration the original Christoper Reeve stories.”
“So it’s kind of a romantic comedy,” described Ascheim. ”Lois and Clark and Jimmy are just recent college graduates, they’re at the Daily Planet, and they’re going through the life stuff you do in your 20s. It’s a romance in addition to being a super hero story.”
Ascheim next revealed that the series would feature a unique twist on Clark’s powers, as “in our version, [the 20+ year old] Clark is new to his powers.”
He added, “So it’s a coming of age story for all of them.”
In conclusion to his brief discussion of My Adventures With Superman, Ascheim noted that “[this] piece of animation tested better with girls than, I think any animation we’ve done in a really long time.”
