New Set Photos from Jon Favreau’s Live-Acton Star Wars TV Show Tease Iconic Location!
New set photos from Jon Favreau and Disney’s upcoming live-action TV series reveal the show might be taking place on one of the most iconic planets in the franchise, Tattooine.
According to Making Star Wars, the live-action Star Wars series is filming in Southern California. They were lucky enough to capture a number of photos from the set, and it definitely appears like the show will at least be featuring the desert planet of Tatooine.

However, their report does indicate there are some strange anomalies they saw on set that could indicate it’s a different planet altogether. They note there is “some sort of black rock set dressing that almost gave the set the appearance of being against a black mountain or something very lava-like.” This black rock appears to be important as they note, “there was some fake black rocks and there was a lot of black gravel for the ground placed around the structures, but we saw a lot of it off to the side, too, so for all we know the ground could be totally blackened when they film.”
The structures from their photos definitely look like it’s taking place on a desert planet. They even note they noticed “moisture vaporators.” However, it’s quite possible this isn’t Tatooine. Star Wars has introduced us to other desert planets before in Jakku and Jedha. Those planets would make use of moisture farms as well in order to produce water and survive.
There definitely appears to be some kind of compound on the planet as a couple of the pictures indicate a large building with blast doors.
Disney has kept a tight lid on any kind of details about the live-action show. There are rumors that it could take place two to three years after Return of the Jedi. There are also reports that it could involve the Mandalorians.
Given the fact that Star Wars reintroduced Darth Maul into their live-action films in [easyazon_link identifier=”B07D8J737S” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Solo: A Star Wars Story[/easyazon_link], it’s quite possible the character could play a pivotal role moving forward. If you are unfamiliar with the events of the Mandalorian Empire during [easyazon_link identifier=”B001HTSCZI” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]The Clone Wars[/easyazon_link], Darth Maul actually took over the planet for a brief period of time as he ran a cartel that rivaled the Hutts. However, it would be difficult to see Maul appearing in anything other than flashbacks as he is killed by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Rebels which takes place before A New Hope. But Maul could be used to show just how beaten down and destitute the Mandalorians and their planet have become.
Do you think this could be a planet surrounding the former Mandalorian Empire? Is it Tatooine?
