Report: DC Universe Cancels Swamp Thing After One Episode
A new report indicates Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment have cancelled their newly released Swamp Thing show on DC Universe after just one episode.
Variety reports, “DC Universe has canceled the show after a single season.”
TVLine would also report the show has been cancelled. They would report, “sources confirm to TVLine that the freshman series will not be back for a second season.”
It seems rather sudden to cancel the show after just one episode. In fact, Swamp Thing has seen rave reviews from critics as its Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer Score currently sits at 92%.
And fans who did watch the first episode have raved about.
Totally a ride! I can’t believe I have to wait a week to see episode 2. So not fair.

This isn’t the first time Swamp Thing has found itself in the middle of a controversy. Back in April, a report from StarNews indicated that Swamp Thing would have its episode count cut from the original 13 episode order to just 10 episodes.
Actress Virginia Madsen, who plays Maria Sunderland on the show, originally responded to this report in a now deleted post on Instagram writing,
“What a terrible decision. We have been cut to the core by those who have never set foot into the Swamp. And despite the rule I am going to use the hashtag. #swampthing.”
StarNews’ original report also speculated that the reduction in Swamp Thing’s episode count meant that the entire DC Universe streaming platform might be in trouble.
However, DC Universe has constantly been adding new digital comics to their platform. In fact they had added 12,000 comics in April. Business Insider also reported that DC Universe had extremely positive consumer sentiment. Not to mention, they had just expanded their service by rolling out an Xbox app indicating they were continuing to expand.
Swamp Thing stars Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane and Andy Bean as Alec Holland.
The series follows Reed’s Arcane as she investigates a deadly disease that is slowly infecting a small town in Louisiana. During her investigation, she encounters Alec Holland, who is doing his own research into the swamp. However, the two stumble upon a deadly mystery that leads to dire consequences and the birth of Swamp Thing.
What do you make of these reports that Swamp Thing has already been cancelled?
