Rumor: Netflix Axes She-Ra and the Princesses of Power

A new rumor indicates Netflix axed the She-Ra animated television show from showrunner Noelle Stevenson.

YouTubers Clownfish TV speculate that Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power might not see a Season 4. They point to a number of factors including Netflix’s financial situation, the recently announced Masters of the Universe show that is expected to feature He-Man, and that some of the employees behind the She-Ra show are looking for new work.

They first take a look at the newly announced Masters of the Universe show that is coming out from Mattel and not Dreamworks, who produced She-Ra. They specifically note that “Mattel isn’t going to have this running alongside She-Ra. I think they are waiting until She-Ra is over and then they are going to come in with He-Man.” (Related: She-Ra Reboot Voice Actress Calls Character Design Criticism Sexist at New York Comic Con)

They then point out that Rae Geiger, the character designer on She-Ra, is currently looking for work. In fact they point to Geiger’s resume, which is publicly available on their website. The resume indicates their time on She-Ra and the Princesses of Power ended in April 2019.

In a follow-up video, Clownfish TV would also report that Netflix reportedly laid off  a number of executives in their Kids & Family department.

Deadline reported that the executives who were let go included Director of Kids & Family Original Series Jenna Boyd, Original Animation Manager Jill Stewart Sanford, Creative Executive manager of Original Animation Josh Fisher, and Counsel, Business & Legal Affairs Shannon Smith, and Interactive Manager Julius Harper. The report does indicate the positions will more than likely be refilled.

Clownfish TV would also note that She-Ra and the Princesses of Power showrunner Noelle Stevenson is currently promoting a new graphic novel.

Kneon, the co-host of Clownfish TV, states, “Showrunners usually work very, very long hours. They work 12 to 16 hour days. She had time to put together a graphic novel. She had time to put together a graphic novel maybe in the evenings working on She-Ra or maybe her role was over.” He adds, “It’s weird now that she seems to be focusing mostly on the graphic novel. Promoting the graphic novel on Twitter.” (Related: The Internet Hates the New She-Ra Design!)

Stevenson told i09 that the work is a collection of her public year in review posts from the past 7 or 8 years.

“I had seven or eight years of these, and my amazing editor at HarperCollins last year reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in publishing these as a collected comic memoir. So that’s what this is.”

What do you make of this speculation? Do you think Netflix axed She-Ra and the Princesses of Power?
