Star Wars: Jon Favreau Reveals First Details About Upcoming Live-Action TV Series!

Jon Favreau, who launched the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just gave us our first details about the upcoming Star Wars live-action TV series.

Favreau updated fans on Instagram revealing the title of the show is The Mandalorian.

Favreau’s update confirms the series will take place before the current trilogy that began with The Force Awakens. It will also take place after Return of the Jedi.

The update also confirms the rumors that the show will focus on the Mandalorians or at least one Mandalorian. Favreau writes, “We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”

Favreau had previously confirmed that this new show will feature all new characters and all new planets. He spoke with Nerdist, “It’s all new characters, different planets, and so a whole new piece. But it also fits into the timelines.”

While Favreau did promise all new characters, there’s still the possibility of bringing in some fan favorite characters especially from Star Wars Rebels. The most notable Mandalorian from the show is Sabine Wren.

Wren’s story in Star Wars Rebels takes place at the beginning of the Rebellion against the Empire. However, at the end of the show she decides to join Ahsoka Tano in seeking out her friend Ezra.

It’s quite possible something has happened to Ahsoka and Sabine is now on her own seeking Ezra in the outer reaches of space. For those unfamiliar with Wren she’s a Mandalorian from the House Vizsla and related to the Mandalorian terrorist group called Death Watch. She also has lightsaber training is able to wield the Darksaber, which is seen throughout Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars: The Clone Wars as well as referenced in Rogue One.

And as to it being whole new planets, set photos reveal that quite a bit of the architecture looks like Tatooine, so it’s possibly it might not be all new characters and planets. Remember Favreau’s comments took place during the Solo: A Star Wars Story premiere. It’s quite possible some changes might have been made since then.

What do you make of this announcement? Will this get you back into Star Wars?
