Industrial Light and Magic’s Hal Hickel, who has served as the animation supervisor on various Star Wars projects including Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones and The Mandalorian, has called for “a federal mask mandate with penalties” in response to the ongoing COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic.
Hickel shared his opinion on November 15th, declaring on Twitter that the United States needed “a federal mask mandate with penalties” and specifically calling for more than just “monetary penalties,” as he asserted that these “just [punish] the poor and stupid, and let’s the rich and stupid off the hook.”
As for what penalty Hickel believed would be appropriate for an infringement of such a policy, the animation veteran suggested that those who would violate such a mandate “should be made to watch hours of livestream from an ICU”.
“Supervised,” added Hickel. “No phones allowed. Just watch people f—ing dying so they can see the cost of their selfishness.”
The ILM director’s call for punishment in the face of COVID-19 is a stark contrast to those made by The Mandalorian star Gina Carano for the US to “open up your businesses & churches” with “whatever regulations you want to because that is your right”.
“People are dropping like flies from depression and suicide, overdoses, MURDER,“ said the actress back in September. “Enough already.”
