The Orville Promises Fans Action-Packed Season 3: “It’s Going to be Huge”

The Orville just started principal photography for season three and already hype around the show is building with fans after a panel during New York Comic Con.

The panel, which featured most of the cast, with the exception of Seth McFarlane, provided fans with an entertaining look at what they can expect.

As reported by Space.com, Executive Producer Jon Cassar revealed some details on what they can expect for Season 3. First, the season will be eleven episodes long. He also noted that McFarlane and company want to make each episode similar to the two-parter “Identity” from Season 2.

“All I can tell you is that after last year’s [episode] ‘Identity’ — [Parts] 1 and 2 — which I’m sure you’ve all seen, is that Seth wants to make all this year all like that. So, I’m telling you right now, that it’s double the production schedule that we had before, and it’s going to be huge.”

And the move from Fox to Hulu will allow The Orville to provide that high end production value. Fellow Executive Producer David A. Goodman detailed:

“Being on Hulu, being on a streaming service like that gives us a little more freedom — maybe too much! But it’s going to be quite a season. You’re going to have to take my word for it.”

This is interesting, to say the least, because in that two-parter gave The Orville really showed off the team’s ability to showcase some excellent space combat. If that is the model the cast and crew are working on, then fans can expect a lot more action in Season 3.

Along with the executive producers promising that Season 3 will be “huge,” the panel also saw an audience member ask if the show might feature a musical episode. Musical episodes on TV shows have become quite a thing over the past few years. The CW’s Flash featured a musical crossover episode with Supergirl in the show’s third season. Other shows like The Magicians, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Fringe, and The X-Files have featured musical episodes.

It should be noted that the cast has two very strong singers such as Scott Grimes and Seth MacFarlane who have in the past released musical albums.

However, the outlook of a musical episode for The Orville doesn’t look good. Grimes, who plays Lt. Gordon Malloy initially responded, “Absolutely not.” He then paused before adding, “But if we did…” He and actress Penny Johnson Jerald, who plays Dr. Claire Finn, then discussed an idea they had for a musical episode. So, it might not be out of the realm of possibility.

To close out the panel, Grimes and actor Mark Jackson, who plays Isaac, did a rendition of Goodbye by Air Supply., further hinting a musical episode could be in the works.

What do you think, does this excite you for the upcoming season of The Orville? And I want to know what has been your favorite episode of the show so far?
