Renner’s update on the extent of his injuries came just days before CNN obtained a new Sheriff’s report from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office that provided more details about the tragic accident.
According to the report, Renner was aiding his adult nephew whose truck got stuck in the snow. After using his PistenBully to get the truck free from the snow, the plow began “sliding sideways” and then proceeded to “roll down the hill.”
As the plow began to roll down the hill, Renner jumped out of it. However, the report then details, “Once he was off the Pistenbully, he realized it was heading directly toward (his nephew).”
“He feared the Pistenbully was going to hit (his nephew), so he decided to attempt to stop or divert the Pistenbully,” it states.
Renner then attempted to re-enter the cab of the plow, but he failed and was “immediately pulled under the left side track.”
He was then “completely crushed under a large snowcat (vehicle) and had “extreme (difficulty) breathing.” The report indicated that a 911 call log noted that Renner’s “right side of his chest … collapsed – upper torso is crushed.”
The report then detailed, “The Pistenbully rolled over him and continued down the road. He laid on the ground and focused on his breathing while (his nephew and others) rendered aid to him until medical personnel arrived on scene.”
This new report lines up with what Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam detailed in a press conference back on January 3rd.
At the time he stated, “On Sunday morning at 8:55 a.m. a 911 call was received for a 1050 or a crash involving a snow cat versus pedestrian. The subject had been run over by a snow cat in the area of Mount Rose Highway. At 8:57 Washoe County dispatch advised some units and they started en route.”
After explaining that Mount Rose Highway was closed due to heavy snowfall, he provided details on the accident, “Based on our investigation, Mr. Renner’s personal vehicle, which was being driven by a family member had become stuck in the snow near his home. Mr. Renner went to retrieve his PistenBully or snow cat, an extremely large piece of snow removal equipment weighing at least 14,333 pounds, in an effort to get his vehicle moving.”
“After successfully towing his personal vehicle from its stuck location, Mr. Renner got out of his PistenBully to speak to his family member. At this point it was observed that the PistenBully started to roll. In an effort to stop the rolling PistenBully, Mr. Renner attempts to get back into the driver’s seat of the PistenBully. Based on our investigation, it’s at this point Mr. Renner is run over by the PistenBully,” the Sheriff explained.
He then revealed, “An eyewitness detailed seeing Mr. Renner getting into the PistenBully and not seeing him again until the PistenBully came to a rest in a pile of snow in front of his driveway.”
Renner previously indicated he was unable to type when he provided an update to his Instagram followers at the beginning of the month, “Thank you all for your kind words. Im too messed up now to type. But I send love to you all.”
However, his sister, Kym Renner, would inform People that Renner was hitting all of his recovery goals, “If anyone knows Jeremy, he is a fighter and doesn’t mess around. He is crushing all the progress goals. We couldn’t feel more positive about the road ahead.”
