Johnny Depp Presents New Documents Claiming Amber Heard Lied About $7M Charity Donation

A new set of documents presented by Johnny Depp and his legal team allege that Amber Heard lied about donating the entirety of her $7 million divorce settlement to charity, choosing to pocket most of the money instead.

According to documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Heard has only verifiably donated just $100,000 to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, one of two charitable organizations, alongside the American Civil Liberties Union, that the Aquaman star had vowed to donate her settlement to.

Notably, the scan of the check shows that this donation was “made in the name of Amber Heard” from the account of John Depp, rather than directly from the actress herself.

In a letter alleged to have been sent to Heard by Candie Davidson-Goldbronn, sent three years after the initial donation, the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Foundation Associate Senior Vice President can be read “following up on the correspondence that Children’s Hospital Los Angeles received on August 26, 2016 […] that a $3.5 million pledged gift has been made in your honor.”

“Since the first installment, CHLA has not received further installments,” Davidson-Goldbronn wrote,  before inquiring if Heard had “knowledge if CHLA should expect further installment(s) on your behalf or if the pledge will not be fulfilled.”

Curiously, the Daily Mail learned during the course of their reporting of “two further donations that the hospital received of $500,000 in 2017 and $250,000 in 2018, both in ‘honor of Amber Heard’,” which “came from an anonymous donor, however, rather than from Heard herself, and not from Depp.”

“The hospital’s June 2019 letter only refers to the initial $100,000,” the Daily Mail explained, “suggesting bosses did not consider the two payments part of Heard’s pledged $3.5m.”

It is currently unknown how much, if at anything at all, Heard successfully donated to the ACLU, as the organization did not respond to the Daily Mail’s requests for comments.

If the claims made by Depp’s legal team are true, they would contradict a number of public declarations made by Head concerning her supposed donation of the money.

In a witness statement submitted as part of Depp’s libel trial against UK tabloid The Sun, Heard claimed, “I remained financially independent from him [Depp] the whole time we were together and the entire amount of my divorce settlement was donated to charity.”

Her alleged donation also seemingly played a factor in Judge Andrew Nichols’ ruling in The Sun’s favor, as he remarked that Heard’s “donation of the $7 million to charity is hardly the act one would expect of a gold-digger.”

In August of 2016, Heard told USA Today that “As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves.”

“As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated,” she declared. “This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future.”

At the time, ACLU executive director Anthony D. Romero told Heard that the organization was “incredibly grateful” for her contribution. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles President and Chief Executive Officer Paul S. Viviano similarly thanked the actress for her “tremendous” act of charity.

In 2017, she made the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’ “Honor Roll of Donors” and was recognized as donating in excess of $1 Million.

During an October 2018 appearance on Dutch television network RTL, Heard reaffirmed, “Seven million dollars in total was donated, I split it between the ACLU and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. I wanted nothing.”

When reached for comment, Heard’s attorney, Elaine Charlson Bredehoft, blamed Depp for Heard’s failure to fulfill her financial obligations, calling his claims an “effort to plant stories in the media criticizing Amber for not yet fulfilling all the donations she pledged to charity” in “yet another desperate attempt to divert attention from the UK Court’s findings relating to allegations of Mr. Depp committing domestic abuse.”

“Amber has already been responsible for seven figures in donations to charitable causes and intends to continue to contribute and eventually fulfil her pledge,” said Bredehoft, before claiming that “Amber has been delayed in that goal because Mr. Depp filed a lawsuit against her, and consequently, she has been forced to spend millions of dollars defending Mr. Depp’s false accusations against her.”

The Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and the ACLU declined to speak with the Daily Mail concerning donor information.
