Joker actor Joaquin Phoenix was arrested during Jane Fonda’s weekly “Fire Drill Fridays” climate change protests in Washington, D.C.
Before Phoenix was arrested, he gave a speech protesting climate change.
In his speech Phoenix states, “I don’t have anything prepared. People have spoken so intelligently and eloquently. But something I think isn’t oftentimes talked about in the environmental movement or the conversation about climate change is that the meat and dairy industry is the third leading cause of climate change.”
Phoenix continues, “I think sometimes we wonder what we can do in this fight against climate change. And there is something that you can do today right now and tomorrow by making a choice about what you consume.”

“I struggle so much with what I can do at times. There are things I can’t avoid, I flew a plane out here today, or last night rather. But one thing that I can do is change my eating habits. So I just want to urge all of you to join me in that,” Phoenix concluded.
CBS News reports that following the speech, Phoenix would march alongside Jane Fonda and Susan Sarandon.

Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki informed CBS News that 147 people were taken into custody. They were charged with crowding and obstructing or incommoding.
Sheen has reportedly been arrested 77 times.
I didn’t know when we met for the #FireDrillFridays protest that Martin Sheen & Joaquin Phoenix were going to get arrested. It was the 77th time Sheen was arrested meaning he’s been doing this before the fame & I respect Phoenix using his vegan diet as activism! @FireDrillFriday pic.twitter.com/vPyVnA6q8s

Phoenix and Sheen are not the first celebrities to get arrested while protesting for climate change at Jane Fonda’s Fire Drill Fridays.” Back in November, Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice actor Diane Lane was arrested alongside Coyote Ugly’s Piper Perabo.
