One Million Moms Calls for Boycott of Fox’s ‘Lucifer’

Lucifer TV Series

One Millions Moms, a non-profit organization whose “goal is to stop the exploitation of our children, especially by the entertainment media (TV, music, movies, etc.), has launched a petition and campaign to have its members contact Olive Garden via phone, social media, and email and tell them to pull their advertising dollars from Fox’s new show Lucifer.

The call to action dubs Lucifer as “spiritually dangerous” because it “glorifies Satan as a caring, likable person in human flesh.” It goes on to claim that the message of the show is “Lucifer is misunderstood. He doesn’t want to be a bad guy, it’s God who is forcing him to play that role.”

While, One Million Moms is free to exercise their opinion and apply pressure to sponsors including Olive Garden and Fox itself, this petition is absolutely insane. They want to starve advertising dollars for the show in order to have Fox cancel it. But they are also attempting to pawn off the responsibility for their own children onto the sponsors of the television show and the producers of the show itself.

See, they don’t want to be actual parents and set rules restricting their children from viewing the show. No, they want the producers and advertisers to do the parenting for them by completely removing the show eliminating the possibility of even viewing it. It is absolutely absurd. Maybe instead of trying to create momentum for this petition, they instead teach a class on parenting and how parents should set limits for their kids. My parents did it for me. I wasn’t able to watch the Simpsons or South Park until I was in high school. They deemed the content inappropriate for me. They set rules and enforced them. They didn’t take to the internet or even send off snail mail to attack a company for producing creative content.

Hell, if One Million Moms feels so strongly about the messaging in Lucifer, maybe they can use it as a teaching moment, but that would require them to be parents which they seemingly don’t want to do by pawning it off on entertainment companies and their advertisers.

One Million Moms needs to take a deep look at itself in the mirror and question the real value of creating absurd petitions like this one.

Lucifer airs on Mondays on Fox at 9:00 p.m. ET/8:00 p.m. CT
