Todd McFarlane Has His Eyes On A Major Crossover with Batman!
If Todd McFarlane has his way, we could see another Spawn/Batman crossover in the future.
Todd McFarlane, someone with many credits under his belt such as being the co-founder of Image Comics, a veteran of Spider-Man, and creator of Spawn. But his most notable crossover [easyazon_link identifier=”B001OXPIZY” locale=”US” tag=”bounintocomi-20″]Spawn/Batman[/easyazon_link] still is on his mind some twenty two years after the fact. Shortly after it’s release a follow-up was already in the planning stages, but the collaborator at the time had no experience with the Dark Knight.
“We had the first one Frank Miller and I did, that did pretty well. Then years later we announced another one that I was going to do and Greg Capullo was going to draw,” McFarlane said of the idea. “Then Greg ends up being the pre-eminent Batman artist of the last few years, so we were sort of ahead of the curb. Maybe we’ll resurrect that when the time’s right. I think that both of the characters visually fit with each other, and I think that there’s enough character differences that it’s not just the same guy in a different suit. The story I pitched them was about how all the opposites — character flaws if you will. Hopefully someday I can find an opening there to do that myself.”
DC has been pretty pro-active with crossovers recently. We saw a Green Lantern Star Trek crossover last year and we are already getting a second volume this year. Green Lantern will also be seeing a crossover with Planet of the Apes.
As for the Dark Knight, he’s been kicking it with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in multiple crossovers. We will even be seeing a Justice League Power Rangers crossover. Even smaller titles like Gotham Academy have seen crossovers with Lumberjanes
Todd McFarlane has made it clear that he would like to see Spawn/Batman II, but fans will have to wait and see if the stars align to make this project come to fruition.
