Adding to the already numerous issues facing the series’ long-awaited fourth entry, longtime Dragon Age Senior Creative Director Matt Goldman has left BioWare effective immediately, becoming the fourth major Dragon Age-related dev to leave the studio amidst the game’s development.

According to a November 23rd company-wide email sent to BioWare staff and later made public by Kotaku’s Luke Plunkett, studio GM Gary McKay revealed that “Matt Goldman is leaving BioWare.”
“We have mutually agreed to part ways, and his last day is today,” he added.
Regarding Goldman’s involvement with Dragon Age 4, McKay asserted “We understand that Matt’s departure has an impact on you, as well as the game’s development. Rest assured our commitment to a high-quality Dragon Age game has not waivered, and we will not ship a game that is not up to BioWare’s standards,” – a promise which admittedly inspires little confidence in a world where the studio’s last two non-compilation releases were Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem.
In conclusion to his email, McKay further assured studio staff, “We, including EA’s executive team, have absolute confidence in the leadership here at the studio and the people working on this game to carry forward our vision.”

As noted above, Goldman’s departure marks the fourth such loss of a major Dragon Age dev since the game’s initial announcement.
In 2019, then-Dragon Age lead producer Fernando Melo left BioWare after twelve years of serving in various roles at the once-beloved studio.
A year later, in 2020, now-former Dragon Age heads Casey Hudson, the studio’s GM, and Mark Darrah, the series’ long-time executive producer, left their positions after twenty years of respective employment.
