CD Projekt Red Confirms No In-Game Pre-Order Bonuses for Cyberpunk 2077
CD Projekt Red continues to buck trends. The company confirmed there would not be any in-game pre-order bonuses for Cyberpunk 2077.
A recent post in the Cybperunk 2077 subreddit shows a screenshot of Cyberpunk 2077 confirming there would be no pre-order bonuses like armor, money or guns. The Cyberpunk 2077 representative stated, “No, we don’t do that. Every person that buys the game gets exactly the same in-game content, no matter if they buy it in pre-orders, on release date or 2 years later.”
This is a very interesting answer, as it flies in the face of current practice across the gaming industry.
Nearly every new game title on release has some sort of pre-order bonus with in-game items or content, so CD Projekt Red’s stance on the matter is refreshing.
Many gamers feel left out if they can’t purchase a game at or before launch and miss out on an item, a map, or a mission.
This is a very consumer friendly move that eliminates anyone feeling alienated, even if they cannot play Cyberpunk 2077 on April 16th of 2020, when it releases across Windows PC, Xbox One, and Playstation 4.
To their credit, CD Projekt Red has stood rock solid behind their vision for Cyberpunk 2077 in every aspect, from development to distribution.
In a time where the industry seems more profit driven and less consumer driven, they’ve managed to be a throwback to the days where it’s all about the gamer.
Pre-orders introduce a barrier to content. CD Projekt Red has taken those barriers and removed them, and we can only hope more developers follow suit in the future.
In this writer’s humble opinion, gated content has done more to ruin the gaming industry than help it.
Whether content is behind a time gate, a pay gate, or ridiculous grind mechanic, it has no place in gaming at all.
What do you think, fellow gamers? Is CD Projekt Red setting a better standard for the industry moving forward?
