CD Projekt Red employees have received death threats following the sudden announcement that Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed for an additional three weeks.
On October 27th, CD Projekt Red Studio Co-Founder Marcin Iwiński and Game Director Adam Badowski announced through the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account that the studio had “decided to move the release date of Cyberpunk 2077 by 21 days.”
After acknowledging that fans had “many emotions and questions in your head,” and asking them to “please accept our humble apologies,” Badowski and Iwiński explained that “the biggest challenge for us right now is shipping the game on current-gen, next-gen, and PC at the same time.”
The two further detailed how the cross-platform certification process “requires us to prepare and test 9 versions of it (Xbox One/X, compatibility on Xbox series S|X PS4/Pro, compatibility on PS5, PC, Stadia)…while working from home.”
“We feel we have an amazing game on our hands and are willing to make every decision, even the hardest ones, if it ultimately leads to you getting a video game you’ll fall in love with,” the team concluded.

While most fans excited for the game were disappointed and annoyed by the delay announcement, CD Projekt Red Senior Game Designer Andrzej Zawadzki revealed just a few hours after the initial post that some had begun to level death threats towards members of CD Projekt Red.
“I understand you’re feeling angry, disappointed and want to voice your opinion about it,” wrote Zawadzki on his personal Twitter account. “However, sending death threats to the developers is absolutely unacceptable and just wrong. We are people, just like you.”

Zawadzki would also share “one of the mildest messages” received by the team, in which the anonymous user stated that he knew “where you live” and threatened that “you and your family will be persecuted.”
The anonymous user also wrote, “I will burn you alive if you don’t release the game.”
“There were far, FAR worse,” Zawadzki elaborated. “Every single one is being reported. We will not let it go through. Do not treat it lightly. Do not ignore it. It is serious.”
Cyberpunk 2077 is now scheduled for a new release date of December 10th, 2020.
