Guerrilla Games took to Twitter to announce that the studio was seeking to expand its workforce. “Join Guerrilla in Amsterdam as we work to expand the world of Horizon.”

“It’s an exciting time to join us! We have many open roles across multiple departments, so check them out on our Careers page and apply today!” As noted in the tweet’s attached image and the careers page, the 44 job listings include roles across animation, programming, art, and design.

What is of note however is the text on the Twitter image. “We are continuing to create epic solo adventures for Aloy. But there is more.”

“A new internal team is developing a separate Online Project set in Horizon’s universe,” Guerrilla Games reveals. “Featuring a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look, friends will be able to explore the majestic wilds of Horizon together.”

Some jobs are marked as being part of the Horizon Single-Player team (SP), Online Project team (OP), or External Project team (EP).

Guerilla Games announces multiple job listings, including an online Horizon-based project via Twitter

The Online Project seeks not only combat, world, system, and “player engagement” designers; but writers and quest designers.

This may suggest a co-op experience, rather than a purely competitive game devoid of a progressing story. The Senior Gameplay Systems Designer role also mentions employees are expected to “Design, prototype and implement gameplay systems and contents related to character skills, items and power progression.”

With the Senior Machine Combat Designer and Lead Combat Designer roles both mentioning cooperative gameplay, it could be a game akin to Monster Hunter. Players could work together to take down giant robots and earn ways to improve their character’s skills and gear. This is all pure conjecture on our part however. None of the roles mention needing “free to play,” monetization, or live-service experience.

Though Horizon Call of the Mountain was announced at The Game Awards 2022, this is not the online title. The gameplay trailer, PlayStation Blog’s post, and IGN’s Hands-On Impressions all describe a single-player adventure in VR.

Not to mention the graphical style doesn’t fit the “stylized” description, and the pitfalls of developing for VR may make it unlikely that game will have online elements.
