The genuis, billionaire, playboy, and philanthropist was captured after giving the United States military a demonstration of his Jericho Missile. After a successful test, his convoy was ambushed by terrorists who captured and held him prisoner. They demanded he make weapons for them. However, Tony refused. But he did make one weapon. He deceived the terrorists into providing him the necessary materials to make his first Iron Man suit. Tony then used the suit to destroy the terrorist’s entire encampment and then he fled into the desert. Fortunately, he was rescued by the U.S. Military who transported him back to the United States.
Tony Returns to the United States
Once he arrived in the United States, Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan pick him up at the airport. Hogan asks him, “Where to sir?” Pepper immediately tells him to take Tony to the hospital. However, Tony tells her that is not where he wants to go. Instead he tells her there are two things he wants to do. The first is an American cheeseburger and the second one is a press conference. Tony then tells Hogan, “Drive. Cheeseburger first.”
In the next scene he arrives at Stark Industries where he’s greeted by Obadiah Stane played by Jeff Bridges. And if you aren’t watching carefully you might miss that he’s just finished eating an American cheeseburger. In fact, Happy Hogan comes around the car with a bag where Tony disposes of his cheeseburger wrapper. Obadiah Stane even kids with him, “A burger, you had to have a burger. Did you get me one of those?”
The answer: False. He ate an American cheeseburger!
And what’s even more interesting is that the burger didn’t come from McDonald’s, Wendy’s, or Five Guys. It came from Burger King. And there’s a big reason for that. Robert Downey Jr. confessed that Burger King saved his life. Downey told the New York Daily News, “I have to thank Burger King. It was such a disgusting burger I ordered. I had that, and this big soda, and I thought something really bad was going to happen.” Downey Jr. then revealed he had an epiphany and tossed all of his drugs into the ocean right then and there. Tony Stark eating an American cheeseburger from Burger was a reference to Robert Downey Jr.’s own personal experiences.
