Cosplayer and costume maker Anastasia Lion showed off her DC Comics and Black Canary cosplay that she’s been fine tuning since back in October 2018.
Take a look.
Black Canary was created by Robert Kanigher and Carmine Infantino back in in Flash Comics #86 in 1947. She was originally the alter ego of Dinah Drake and would take on crime as part of the Justice Society of America and the Justice League of America.
While Black Canary has become famous for her romantic relationships with Green Arrow, she originally fought crime with Gotham City detective Larry Lance, who she would eventually marry.
The Black Canary name would be passed down to Dinah Drake’s daughter in Dinah Laurel Lance. Dinah Laurel Lance would have a genetic mutation that allowed her to use her now trademark Canary Cry, a high-powered sonic scream.
Black Canary would eventually become the founding member of the Birds of Prey after being recruited by former Batgirl Barbara Gordon. In Black Canary/Oracle: Birds of Prey, Chuck Dixon and Gary Frank teamed up under the instruction of DC Comics editor Jordan Gorfinkel to unite Barbara Gordon’s alter-ego of Oracle with Black Canary aka Dinah Lance. Their first mission was uncovering a crooked businessman and his dealings with terrorists that left numerous dead bodies in his wake including young children.
Black Canary has made the leap from the comic book to animation. The character had a starring role in Justice League Unlimited and has made appearances on Batman: The Brave and the Bold as well as Young Justice.
She’s also been featured in multiple live-action versions. She first appeared in The WB’s Birds of Prey series where she was played by Rachel Skarsten. Black Canary would later go on to appear in Smallville played by Alaina Huffman.
Black Canary has become a main character in The CW’s Arrow. The character has been portrayed by Katie Cassidy, Caity Lotz and Juliana Harkavy.
She will be appear in the upcoming Birds of Prey film portrayed Jurnee Smollett-Bell.
