Someone might be in the conversation to replace Ezra Miller in the role of The Flash, even though Warner Bros. Discovery has made it perfectly clear through their inaction that they are sticking with the powder keg of an actor, and it’s the unorthodox candidate of Elliot Page.
An insider who has the ear of Geekosity tells the site that although no discussions with Page have begun, the trans actor is someone Warner Bros. Discovery “will look at for the role.” However, that is only once The Flash movie has been released and done whatever kind of business it can.
The plan is still to release the movie in theaters and recoup any losses from the investment. The Flash already cost the studio $200 million and Geekosity notes further reshoots that would replace Miller digitally will cost an extra $200M.
His presence throughout the entire film exacerbates matters. It’s known from the trailer and the DC FanDome 2021 sneak preview that Miller plays two alternate versions of Barry Allen who team up to fix the timeline.
But, according to leaks from test screenings, he also plays a third Barry who is ultimately the evil responsible for messing up the multiverse. Reshoots would cover three parts portrayed by Miller who’s in almost every scene.
“Recasting equals reshooting and reshooting equals the same original movie budget. That brings The Flash to at least a $400 million price tag,” Geekosity says. “They won’t break even.”
Miller and the “quagmire of scandals” that include multiple arrests, harassment, videotaped assaults, and now child grooming. Warner is turning the other cheek but the public is not and they are coming up with ideas for replacements.
That’s where Page comes in and Twitter is leading the charge to vouch for The Umbrella Academy star. Behind Arrowverse Flash Grant Gustin, Page is gaining in popularity as a favorite to play the new Scarlet Speedster at least among Twitter activists and apparently Warner Bros. Discovery executives.
This is owing to experience in the X-Men and Umbrella Academy franchises which are very heavy on sci-fi elements, especially time travel. As well, Page would keep the Flash character in the hands of a trans/nonbinary person.
Keep in mind this is an activist campaign that, like the Amber Heard petitions, might not go anywhere initially. The old guard at Warner under Ann Sarnoff didn’t listen to fans about Amber Heard and there is no guarantee David Zaslav will now despite the cuts and firings that took place after he and Discovery took power.
