Crunchyroll Announces Second Season For Anime Adaptation Of Korean Manhwa ‘Tower Of God’

While fans are still waiting with bated breath for confirmation of a physical English release for the original manwha, many are going nuts over Crunchyroll’s recent announcement that they have given the green light for a second season of Tower of God

The hype was real for fans in attendance at the company’s recent Industry Panel held at this year’s edition of their Crunchyroll Expo, where not only did they announce Tower of God‘s return, but also teased fans with the second season’s first key visual.
In it, both slayer candidate and series main protagonist Baam – sporting his post-time skip longer hair and pony tail – and soon-to-be-introduced deuteragonist Ja Wangman can be seen in profile.

In addition to the visual, Crunchyroll also released a recap trailer to help fans refresh their memories on the events of the anime adaptation’s first season.
In celebration of this announcement, series creator SIU (a.k.a. Lee Jong Hui) shared a new illustration of Bam alongside a special message.
“It seems like season 1 of the animation just came out yesterday, but now I’ll have a chance to see all of you again through season 2!” wrote SIU, as translated by the Official English Tower of God anime twitter account. “I’m so grateful to all of the anime production staff as well as the readers, and I can’t wait to see how season 2 turns out. Thank you as always for all your support!”

Unfortunately, this news comes with a somber caveat, as it comes just as the Tower of God manwha enters another indefinite hiatus due to SIU’s health.
Announced at the end of series’ 550th chapter (the 133rd of its final season), as of this publication the announcement is currently only available to read for FastPast users on the manwha’s host site, Korean website Nave.

“Hello, this is SI,” opened the manhwaga (translated by mangahelpers user lazybum). “As usual, I had a lot to consider and think about before writing this notice.”
He continued, “Over the past few months, I’ve been trying to continue the series after just one week of rest, but I’ve already increased my workload by a lot, and I’ve been trying to focus on other work reports, but I’ve been constantly worried about not being able to focus on the manuscript for personal reasons.”

“I tried to be calm about personal life problems and work, but it didn’t take,” explained SIU. “Originally, I was going to start working on the next episode the second I finished this one, but rather than overworking myself and doing it in a bad condition I decided that it was the right thing to do, to recover and resume the next episode even if I gave up some of the work.”

“After I take a while in my life, I will take a good look at the already-made manuscripts, the ones that are being made and the previous ones and review them once I’m fully prepared,” he said. “We apologize for disappointing our readers with these frequent long-term breaks.”
“I know all of you love and cherish this work, and I do so too. So I will work hard and come back once I’m in a better shape,” SUI concluded. “Thank you, as always, for the support and love.”

SUI would expand on the reasons behind his hiatus in a later post made to his personal blog.
“First of all, as a writer, I am sorry that my personal reasons have affected the serialization,” he apologized. ” I have met good readers and have lived as an unduly happy writer for a long time.”
“I am grateful for the love and I think I put in a lot of effort myself,” wrote Sui. “But I am always worried about whether I am a writer who can repay that love and interest sufficiently.”

The manhwaga further opined, “It is a shame to think that it was a concern that did not reach the readers sufficiently through the work I worked on, but every week I repeat the life of holding a heavy pen again, suffering from the thought that if I had been a better person or writer, the readers would have been happier.”
“Therefore, it seems that I cannot let go of my love for my work and work under any circumstances,” he wrote as he drew his blog post to a close. “I will prepare my body and mind and come back with good works and images. I love you and thank you. I hope you have a happy and healthy Monday every week.”

Additionally, several members of the Tower of God production team shared their excitement at the series’ return.
“The Tower of God 2nd season anime is coming!” exclaimed character designer Miho Tanino (translated via DeepL), alongside his sharing of a congratulatory illustration of Bam and Ja. “I can’t wait to watch it! I hope many more people will get to know this wonderful work!”

Tanino also presented fans with a small comic, wherein Baam, Khun, and Rak cheer for the season two announcement while expressing confusion at both the identity of Ja on the key visual and where exactly the story would pick up, adding “The second season of Tower of God is in the works. Please spread the word about Tower of God to the selectors in your area before it airs!”
