J.K. Rowling’s opinions on transgender ideology has made her the target of incessant attacks on social media, and the latest onslaught of abuse has been propelled by a Harry Potter fan account that shamelessly attempted to dox one of her daughters.

The account in question goes by the name of Wizarding News™(@wizardingnews) and is a LGBTQIA+ activist account that has made it its mission to “reporting on the demise of JK Rowling’s legacy.”

Highlighting that @wizardingnews had her blocked on X, Rowling asked her followers to revoke the claims made by the Harry Potter fan account, which read, “Reminder that JK Rowling’s eldest daughter (the one with whom she was famously pregnant while writing Harry Potter) changed her last name to literally get away from Rowling, and moved to Portugal.”

Rowling then requested, “Could somebody who isn’t blocked by this account tell them this is untrue in all respects, as I suspect they already know,” adding, “Lying about my kids is a new low, even by this website’s subterranean standards.”

Sharing yet another screenshot of @wizardingnews, which claimed, “Did you Know? JK Rowling is a grandmother. Have any of you ever seen her talk about grandchildren?” Rowling retorted, “Again, completely false, @wizardingnews. I have no grandchildren. What are you gaining by posting these lies?”

“You’re painting a target on people who have no connection with me, who aren’t my relatives,” the Harry Potter creator said in the comments section of the thread she started above.

Rowling added, “You surely know what you’re doing, but persist. Hate me all you like, but your actions are having real world consequences for people I don’t even know.”

The For Women Scotland account took Rowling’s side, sharing a post that read, “This disgusting site posted pictures of the baby they falsely claimed was @jk_rowling’s grandchild with handy location details. If that child was kidnapped because of their lies, would they accept responsibility? Because the poor woman they are doxxing probably has no clue they are targeting her!”

Rowling shared the post, stating, “This is not a joke. The baby and its mother have no connection with me, @wizardingnews. That isn’t my daughter. Your vendetta against me is causing collateral damage to innocent people.”

“If legal action is the only way to protect them, I will take it,” the author warned.

In response to one of Rowling’s posts condemning their actions, @wizardingnews — who still have the Harry Potter creator blocked — wrote, “Deleted the post with photos and link to that Instagram hours ago, Jo. Glad you seem to be self-aware enough that you’re now publicly acknowledging the hate your bigoted rhetoric engenders.”

The author proceeded to reply, writing, “You have me blocked, or I could respond directly, @wizardingnews. You’ve posted fabrications about my daughter. You have doxxed and targeted a young mother with no connection to me. I want a retraction and apology, or we go to lawyers.”

In a follow-up post, Rowling made it very clear that she would be contacting her lawyer to legally settle this dispute if the Harry Potter fan account doesn’t issue an apology, declaring, “.@wizardingnews I’ve done everything I can to keep my children out of the public eye. My eldest daughter doesn’t owe you or anyone else details of her private life.”

“However, for the avoidance of doubt: 1. Contrary to your claims, we are very close and last talked an hour ago. We discussed your posts, which have angered and distressed her. 2. Contrary to your claims, she doesn’t live in Portugal. 3. Contrary to your claims, she has no children. 4. The young mother whose photograph and personal details you published is not my daughter and has no relation to me whatsoever,” the author proceeded to list.

She then stated, “You’ve published easily disproven and damaging falsehoods. Should we go to legal proceedings, you will need to show why, in spite of being told the truth, you neither retracted nor apologised. In the absence of any such retraction and apology, the next communication you receive will be from my lawyer.”

Earlier on Thursday, Rowling would be sent more alleged posts from @wizardingnews, made after the back-and-forth between them via third parties, given that the author is still blocked and there’s no other way to communicate.

The posts made by @wizardingnews added more fuel to the fire, claiming that Rowling was “more upset about about being galled a grandma” and “having to admit that she engenders so much hate,” and reposting a comment by X user @innominace, who provided the link to a website’s article that allegedly confirmed the author’s daughter lived in Portugal.

Rowling then retorted, “.@wizardingnews No real apology, no retraction, continuing to insinuate I’m lying. This is not my daughter. Are you so deluded you imagine I’d deny something so easily prove, if true? Your behaviour is not only despicable but dangerous.”

In the comments section of the post seen above, in response to X user @CapKatieB1, who suggested her “solicitor give them all the attention they desire,” Rowling confirmed that her legal team is “on it,” clarifying that she’s “done” with the back-and-forth with @wizardingnews.

Even more recently, in response to a commenter who asked whether the author could just “ignore this coward and all the other cowards,” Rowling declared, “This man tried to put a target on my daughter. He made his intent perfectly explicit and continued to post pictures and details of the wrong girl while insinuating I was lying about her being unrelated to me.”

She then concluded, “You f—k around with my kids’ safety and privacy, you’ll find out.”

This isn’t first time sensible information about Rowling has been made public by intolerant transgender activists. In November of 2021, transgender activists doxxed the Harry Potter author’s home address sharing a picture of themselves in front of her house and carefully allowing its number to be visible.

Furthermore, in March of 2023, Rowling claimed that her family has received “threats” because of her views on transgender ideology. In an episode of The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling podcast, as transcribed by the Daily Mail, the author said, “Although I don’t regret anything, I’ve had concerns for my family’s safety, and some of the threats haven’t been too amusing to me.”

“There has been fall-out in my life, inevitably, but I still don’t regret standing up,” she declared. “I’ve been shocked by the positions publishing has taken. I think if publishers don’t stand for anything else they should stand for the plurality of views.

Rowling went on, “If I think about the people I most admire, the writers I admire, when it mattered, they stood up. They didn’t sit at home and worry about their royalties or worry about their public image greatly.”

“I have never wanted to be famous, so if you’re very invested in that, then of course this is going to destroy you. I don’t say this in any self-aggrandising way but, I think it could have destroyed some people if that’s where you’re very invested, what has happened to me in the last few years,” the Harry Potter author admitted.

“I think there’s no hope that you will come out with your mental health intact or that you wouldn’t be offering false apologies,” Rowling concluded at the time.
