As per a synopsis provided by Crunchyroll, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero centers on very same Red Ribbon Army that was “once destroyed by [the child-aged] Son Goku”.
Now, years after their defeat, “Individuals, who carry on its spirit, have created the ultimate Androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2.”
“These two Androids call themselves ‘Super Heroes’,” the synopsis continues. “They start attacking Piccolo and Gohan…What is the New Red Ribbon Army’s objective? In the face of approaching danger, it is time to awaken, Super Hero!”
Directed by Tetsuro Kodama and featuring an original story, screen play, and character design by Toriyama himself, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero marks the twenty-first overall film in the franchise and the second in the ‘Super’ series.
Premiering in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984, Dragon Ball quickly grew into a top-ranked title throughout its initial 10-and-a-half-year publication run. Since then, the manga’s popularity has only continued to grow, with the series having sold over 260 million copies and (counting) of its various volumes worldwide.
For fans in North America, the U.K., and Ireland, tickets for Gohan’s generational showdown with the Red Ribbon army go on sale beginning July 22nd.
