Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd to Join Ghostbusters 2020

Ant-Man’s Paul Rudd will join Sony’s upcoming Ghostbusters sequel titled Ghostbusters 2020.

Variety reports Rudd will play a teacher in the upcoming film. He will join Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, who is expected to play the son of a single mother. That mother will be played by Carrie Coon. They also note that Gifted actress Mckenna Grace is also expected to star in the film.

Director Jason Reitman, the son of the original film’s director Ivan Reitman, confirmed Rudd would join the film stating, “I’ve been wanting to work with Paul Rudd since my short film opened for ‘Wet Hot American Summer’ at Sundance. I’m thrilled he’ll be joining this new chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe.”

Sigourney Weaver

Earlier this month Sigourney Weaver confirmed her return for Ghostbusters telling Parade, “It’s going to be crazy working with the guys again!” Weaver will join Dan Akroyd and Bill Murray who are set to reprise their roles as Dr. Peter Venkman and Dr. Raymond Stantz.

Ernie Hudson

Ernie Hudson is assumed to be returning for the film as Winston Zeddemore. A number of reports indicated Hudson would reprise his role following an announcement in March that he would guest star on The CW’s Arrow as a four star general. However, the cited article has since been updated and no longer notes that Hudson will reprise his role for Reitman’s Ghostbusters film.

Hudson did tell Den of Geek that he has talked about the film, but nothing had been solidified.

“Every now and then I’ll hear from Ivan Reitman or Jason, so when I heard that Jason was doing the movie I gave him a call. They just said that it would be more in the tradition of the original [easyazon_link identifier=”B008Y70TMK” locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Ghostbusters[/easyazon_link], whatever that may mean. Obviously it would be a great job if I was included, but they didn’t exclude the possibility that it could happen either. So, so far nothing’s come across my desk, but I’ve always let them and the studio know that I’m open to appearing!”

Love Letter to Ghostbusters

Jason Reitman previously described Ghostbusters 2020 as a “love letter to Ghostbusters…I want to make a movie for my fellow Ghostbusters’ fans.” He also added, “I’m not making the Juno of Ghostbusters’ movies.” He also stated the sequel will “go back to original technique and hand the movie back to the fans.”
