Avengers: Endgame is looking to bring in the dough on opening weekend.
Bloomberg reports Avengers: Endgame will haul in a $282 million opening weekend.
If Bloomberg’s projection is true, Avengers: Endgame would have the highest grossing opening weekend on record. It would edge out last year’s Avengers: Infinity War by close to $25 million. Avengers: Infinity War had an opening weekend of $257 million. That film topped Disney’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens which brought in $247 million on opening weekend. If Bloomberg’s predictions are correct, Avengers: Endgame opening weekend box office sales would increase by 9% from Avengers: Infinity War.
If Avengers: Engame has a total 9% increase in gross from Avengers: Infinity War it could haul in $2.2 billion at the box office. That would put it in the second spot for all time worldwide grosses behind James Cameron’s [easyazon_link identifier=”B003EVWDR0″ locale=”US” tag=”boundingintocomics-20″]Avatar[/easyazon_link]. However, it would edge out Titanic.
Jeff Bock, senior analyst for Exhibitor Relations talked about the phenomenon:
“Infinity War left audiences with a cinematic cliffhanger. The only thing that could really affect the opening weekend would be a running time that exceeded three hours, which has yet to be confirmed by Disney.”
It definitely looks like things are shaping up well for Disney and Marvel Studios. Captain Marvel is projected to make anywhere between $80 million and $160 million during the opening weekend depending on who you ask. A recent rumor sees Disney expecting it to bring in $150 million on opening weekend and $450 million total at the domestic box office.
More Money, More Marvel
Last year, the combined films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe which include Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, and Ant-Man and the Wasp grossed over $4 billion worldwide. The films have sculpted the social landscape and sparked conversations about Thanos’ intentions along with an ending that pivoted the scale in favor of the villain. Not only are they making money and sparking conversations, but Black Panther took home a number of Oscars.
It has yet to be seen how this year will pan out for Marvel films. There’s definitely quite a bit of the social conversation with Captain Marvel, especially regarding a number of comments made by Brie Larson. There’s also a ton of interest in Avengers: Endgame. Fans want to know how the Avengers who were dusted by Thanos will return. Will the Avengers be able to defeat Thanos, and what lies in store for the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And I don’t even know where to begin with Sony’s Spider-Man: Far From Home.
What do you think about Avengers: Endgame hitting these numbers come April? How do you think the inclusion of Captain Marvel in the film will contribute to Endgame? Sound off in the comments below or let’s talk about it on social media!
