Jurassic World Dominion will introduce a new dinosaur that shall serve as the villain of this final installment in the new Jurassic trilogy and the director Colin Trevorrow is comparing it to the one movie and comic book bad guy that stands above them all.

Called the Giganotosaurus, or Giga, Trevorrow insinuates this latest prehistoric villain is bigger than the Indominus Rex, deadlier than the Indoraptor, and so cunning it stands tall with The Clown Prince of Crime in Gotham himself in a way.

“I wanted something that felt like the Joker,” Trevorrow said in an exclusive with Empire going behind the scenes of Dominion. “It just wants to watch the world burn.”

It’s not proven if dinosaurs know the difference between good and evil or can gleefully revel in doing the latter but should it be the case in the primordial brain of the Giga, he has to go through the one-and-only T-Rex to enjoy seeing some flickering embers.

New hi-res images released by Empire that you can find in the tweet below show the beginnings of their confrontation.

Like Rex, the Giga is a real dinosaur and not genetically engineered from scratch by InGen. As a matter of fact, in Dominion, he’s not a product of their efforts at all. Giga was cloned from a sample preserved in amber by a rival company we haven’t seen in years.

The name BioSyn might sound familiar to longtime sharp-eared fans of Jurassic Park. They were the ones who implanted Dennis Nedry in the Park to spy, sabotage, and collect embryos which he did in vain. Well, they’re back.

“BioSyn got the contract to house the dinosaurs that have been captured around the world via various governments,” Trevorrow explained. “They claim it’s a research facility where they can study the pharmaceutical values of the animals. But there’s some other stuff going on.”

He added a “very ambitious and forward-thinking young man,” played by Mauritanian actor Mamoudou Athie will emerge from BioSyn, teasing either a new human enemy with his own agenda or the series’ next John Hammond.

Details on him are scarce but his true nature ought to be revealed by the time Jurassic World Dominion hits theaters on June 10th.

Until then, fan art by character modeler Sebastien Evrard – with a little help from Photoshop – is giving us our clearest glimpses at the Giganotosaurus in all its terrifying glory.

And below is an image that’s night-and-day with the fearsome-looking one above (as in it’s clear as day in broad daylight).

If you had a visceral reaction to the Giga or it leaves you with the same impression as The Joker, then give us the details below.
