Superman actor Henry Cavill, who played the character in Man of Steel, Batman v Superman, and Justice League hinted he’s still attached to the character.
In an Instagram post advertising BOSS eyewear, Cavill hinted that he’s not only attached to Superman, but might even have a Game of Thrones connection.
He posted a photo of himself looking at a giant picture of himself wearing a rain coat and BOSS glass. Cavill teased he’s still attached to Superman writing, “Disclaimer: Don’t stare directly at sun. I may get my powers from there, but you will probably do some damage.”
As for his Game of Thrones reference, he wrote, “As you may have previously noted, my sunglasses from BOSS eyewear have been useful for both staring directly at the sun AND into the rain. Autumn is upon us and winter is c….almost here too.”
Cavill recently showed off his love for Superman when he also took to Instagram to show off his new Ducati motorcycle. However, he also revealed a really slick looking helmet showcasing old school Superman comics. (Related: Henry Cavill Shows His Love for Superman With EPIC Motorcycle Helmet)
Cavill’s Fate as Superman
It’s still unclear what Cavill’s fate as Superman will be. Rumors ran rampant last September that Warner Bros. and Cavill had split ways.
However, Warner Bros. would issue a statement addressing those rumors neither confirming nor denying them. But they did note they hadn’t made any decisions regarding the future of Superman.
“While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.”
Cavill’s Justice League co-star Jason Momoa would deny the rumors saying, “I just talked to Henry…He’s absolutely not [leaving the role]. He loves the character. He’s not. 100 percent. No, it’s absolutely not.” (Related: Update: Jason Momoa Sets the Record Straight About Henry Cavill’s Status as Superman)
Recent rumors indicate J.J. Abrams’ new deal with WarnerMedia will pave the way for new Superman and Green Lantern films. It’s unclear if the role would be recast if those rumors pan out to be true or if they will continue with Cavill. (Related: Report: J.J. Abrams Might Be the Next to Take on Superman and Green Lantern)
Abrams is known for relaunching franchises. He did so with both Star Trek and Star Wars.
The Witcher and Marvel
The British actor isn’t sitting around waiting for Warner Bros. to take action with Superman. He recently starred in the latest Mission Impossible film opposite Tom Cruise. He will also play the leading man in Netflix’s The Witcher which rumors indicate will drop in either November or December 2019. The most recent rumors indicate Cavill has taken a meeting with Marvel Studios and could find a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future. Some fan castings have indicated they would like to see Cavill step into the role of Adam Warlock. However, given Warner Bros. appears to be in disarray and is not pursuing a Superman film at this time, others have indicated Cavill play either Hyperion or Sentry. Personally, I wouldn’t mind seeing him play Scott Summers aka Cyclops in the X-Men. (Related: Rumor: Superman Actor Henry Cavill Met with Kevin Feige About a Role in the MCU)
